I'm in the market for a 3" 1911 for conceal carry. I would love a kimber ultra covert but I don't have 1k+ to drop. As a matter of fact I only have about 500 to spend. At my local shop they have the 3" Rock Islands for 410.00 +tax and I've bought enough there that I can get it for 410 OTD. I have seen a few Charles Daly's for around the same price or just a little more. Given the options which would you get?

Both are built by the same company (Armscor).

I did not know that... But that doesn't help my decision...

RIA hands down

Charles Daly's went out of business. I don't think they even do warranty support any longer.

For what I payed for my RIA I am extremely happy with it. Great value

not to bash RIA at all, but if i was in the same position, i would save just a little bit more and get a comparable springfield armory pistol, and if you save just a little bit more, you could find a decent used colt. the colt versus springfield is a tough argument in itself, and may boil down to if you mind an internal fp safety or not...im rambling, sorry. let us know what you do, and post pics! good luck!

In my area the Spring Fields (if you can find one) are going for 650-700 for a GI vs RIA 1911 Tatical can be had for right at 500. Not sure about used Colts I know the new GI style model 70 goes for around 800.

whoa! 650 for a Springfield GI is CRAZY! here in TX, NIB Springfield GI's, depending on size go for between 525-600, used in good shape 400-500. the little ones tend to be just as much as the big ones sometimes lol! as for the used colts. i've seen some used officer models for around 600 in goog shape. just have to keep an eye open.

Wow I wouldn't even think twice if I could get a Springfield GI in that price range. Worse part all the local dealers say Spring Fields are on back order there extremely popular right now. So when I went to get my pistol RIA was the best quality gun I could get in the sub 700 category.

Springfields can be a bit hard to get right now everywhere, but im still finding plenty in the shops around me, to bad i can't buy'em all, lol! i can buy loadeds all day for 800(a nice NM one at one of my shops!) at three lgs, 750-760 at gunshows, GI for 550 at lgs and gunshows, and my shop down in waco has a mc op for 1100, which is about 100 high compared to what i've seen them go for at a gunshow(998 nib+tax, maybe 1050 otd). the one shop with the NM loaded had 2 brand new range officers for 750 just a couple of months ago, but i haven't been there in awhile. where you from pal?

I am in Florida and it does seem most things are priced a little higher for some reason. Even thought I have a local shop I found and normal the guy gives me sick prices but nothing that low.

My Local guy is about a 30min drive but its worth it. I normal pay 100-200 less then the local local guy. Which more then makes up for gas. I take that back the Local local guy did have a Spring Field GI instock with the Green park finsh. He wanted 950 I forgot about it cause the guys a joke.

That price right there was crazy price. My dealer could not gotten it for me that cheap even if he waved the 10% charity donation that's mandatory on all sells.

I would be getting this same model for 410 otd at my local shop. As for the rest of you suggesting a springfield. I'm not really interested in the gi model. And especially not interested in the extra $ I would have to spend on one...

I took one more look and the one at the local shop has the combat sights. But they still said it was the tactical model.

This is what it should look like. Thats a RIA 1911 45acp Tatical.

SG thats the GI model If it has the sights this one has but looks more like the one I posted before I avoid it. I would have to assume its one someone upgrade.

It has the skeleton trigger/hammer and extended beaver tail just the sights are different. And I clearly remember ther tag saying new and tactical. And when I asked to see it, it had the factory grease all over the damn thing...

I also think it had the extended safety.

The RIA would be the way to go. I would recommend the Tactical model because of the better sights.

On the right is a Compact Tactical and on the left is a Compact Standard. These are great shooting pistol. They are almost as good as my Kimber Ultras.

The Charles Daly would be a good choice if you could still find one. I picked up this used CD Compact a few months ago. Nice pistol for the money.

That's high for a GI, unless you're talking about the Mil-Spec.
