Nice to see them showing up although they could of been for sale all over since I haven't been looking for them. Only thing I can tell you is RIA makes some very nice inexpensive 1911s. I believe this railed version will sell very well for people looking at a 1911 for HD.

ETA: Wow, just saw that it even comes with night sights and actual checkered grips instead of the smooth slippery type they love sticking on them. Oh yea, this one is going to sell really well.

I guess the night sights and rail added $200-$250 to the price of the gun.

Gee, thanks alot. I've been wanting a railed 1911 for some ridiculous unknown reason for awhile, and had almost talked myself out of the desire. Now, that Rock Island is making one, I gotta get one. Thanks pal. :miff:

Why can't they put night sights on the Tactical version? :dunno:

I wanted a full rail for a while too. But with my HD project, that desire has simmer downna. But I still want a full dust cover, similar to a Baer Monolith. :faint:

Personally, I have no use for rear night sight, so it's a waste of $50-$60. I guess I can try to sell it and try to get some money back to by a solid rear sight.

Here's a member's gun from TOS:

I picked up my new Rock Tac 2011 today.

According to Magnus It was the first 2011 sold and shipped.

I just had time to clean her up and hope to get her to the range in the next couple of days.

Enjoy :D

That is definitely a sharp lookin Rock..kinda makes me wonder why the US made ones don't look that good... Also seeing as the regular GI Rocks are going for that price here.. I can only imagine what that railed model would sell for.. :shakehead:

I just payed right at 500 for my 1911 Tactical. I do wonder how much of the guts in that thing are STI cause it looks like it has a STI polymer trigger and I know Armscor helps build STI.

I have a lot of new pic's of my 2011 and wanted to post them.

Keep in mind that the comments below are mine only and that I am in no way a professional I am only a guy that likes 1911's and Rock Island 1911's in particular. Please take everything I say with a large grain of salt.

This is a pic of the grip end of the gun with the typical Rock ambi safety which really has a tactical feel in being very thin. This pic also shows the slide stop which is checkered and the standard mag release which is not. I think that Centerfire says that the mag release is checkered.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2024.jpg

The rail

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2025.jpg

The nonadjustable trigger which design was originally used on the Medallion series of guns from Armscor and later used on the Charles Daly. And now on the Citadel.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2026.jpg

A pic of the fit of the beavertail, which is good not excellent but good.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2027.jpg

The other side of the ambi safety, that is not rust but oil that caught the light wrong. I want to say I really like the feel of the Rock Island ambi safety the size and the fit is really well done. But the done gone safety is a bear to get a part.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2030.jpg

The now standard barrel hood, not sure why Rock Island now does this? Does not really bother me but IMHO not really necessary.

More.

The Meprolight rear night sight:

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2032.jpg

The Meprolight front night sight, you can see here that the sight was not blended with the slide:

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2033.jpg

The billboard:

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2034.jpg

A close up of the Tac 2011, which at first I thought that was simply painted on but after looking at the pic I think that it is scribed just a bit below the surface. I note this because I would like to have a blended S&A mag well and front strap checker put onto the gun and was not sure that this would survive a refinish.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2035.jpg

The business end which I can say is very tight fit between bushing and barrel:

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2040.jpg

Overall I would say that is fit very well in that the slide is tight no truly shape edges, the barrel locks up well and does not move once set. The slide does not drag with pull back and it snaps back into place. I would say that parkerization is so so as you can see there was some rubbing of the thumb safety and beavertail and the parkerization rub off, it does not bother me.

Overall I am happy with the fit and finish of the gun and can not wait to shoot it.

Later tonight or in the morning I will post pic's of the internals.

So I took the time to tare-down the 2011, here are the pic's

Typical Act mag supplied on all 45 acp Rock's:

Polished feed ramp, another thing that Rock Island has started doing recently:

Vertical impact area, full of the grease that I put there:

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2049.jpg

The underside of the slide, disconnector area. Note on the bottom of the slide area where the cut on the disconnector is, in the past most Rock's that have owned have a very rough cast area there. It is now a full machine cut now. A minor point but a nice improvement none the less.

Pic of the pistol completely broken-down:

A bit of a void in the left side of the thumb safety.

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2063.jpg

One of the things that Rock Island does really well is to round the firing pin stop which makes racking the slide much easier, two pic's:

http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/ss90/1976_07_26/2011/IMG_2065.jpg

The other thing that Rock Island does really well is blend the back side of the slide. They make the extractor extremely tight and the fit is second to none:
