No clear answer really, just lots of opinions :)

The ones you named are great. I like the ED Brown 7 round mags as well as they are true flush fit mags. Mecgar makes a good 1911 mag as well. There a number of good 1911 mag brands around it seems. I would stay away from the Promag mags as they seem to not be as high quality as the others.

I have had good luck with the ones you listed and McCormick as well.

I think Tripp magazines are the best in terms of workmanship. You can't find any seams and their hybrid follower is well thought out and well made. The Tripp 8 round magazines are true 8 rounders, not sevens overstuffed.

Wilson magazines have a well deserved reputation for working in just about any 1911. If you have a 1911 that is having problems you think are mag related, Wilson is usually the cure.

The best deal for the money is definitely Chip McCormick. If you believe in the old kiss principle, they are the simplest follower design and they work in all my 1911s (Colt CCO, Colt New Agent, Colt Defender Plus, S&W 5" and Les Baer Concept 7) without exception. They also have a reputation for long life even when left loaded.

The magazine in my duty 1911 is a Tripp Cobra 8 rounder. The magazines on my belt are Chip McCormick Power mags, two 10 rounders and two 8 rounders.

Wilson, CMC, and Tripp have always worked well for me.

My 1911 is a 9mm

I been testing different type of mags in my 1911. So far I have tried Check-mate, Mac-Gar, and Wilson Combat Elite Tactical Magazine ETM.

Hands down my favorite so far are the Mac-Gar. The springs are not the strongest in the world but they load easy and feeds hollow points easily. The Check-Mate are nice also but the finish on them isn't as high a quality as the Mac-Gar. Wilson are OK they have a polymer follower the spring is nice and strong but there hard to load and hollow points tend to nose dive when trying to load them.

The best value I've found are the KimPro Tac mags (made by Check-Mate, I believe). They run great in all of my .45s

In 9mm, both Metal Form and Checkmate (again) run great.

Never had a problem with Wilson's 47D's.

The best magazine for a 1911 is a fallacy.

You don't have to break the bank to get a reliable magazine.
I have Wilson, McCormick, Checkmate, Metalform, as well as others I can't remember at the moment. The ones I use the most would be the 7 round flat top follower magazines made by Metalform.

They cost about 10.00 from CDNNInvestments.

Reliable to a fault, and cheap. Would a 35.00 Wilson feed better than that? Would any other new fangled magazine feed better? I doubt it.

One thing I noticed in the last Brownells catalog for the 1911, was three different magazines listed for sale. They all had a different name on them. I believe Novak was one of them, and ACT was another. I forget the third, but they point is they all looked exactly the same. The price difference was about + or - 5 bucks.

Since I know that ACT makes magazines, I would assume that all three were made by ACT. Would having the Novak name on a magazine make it a better magazine?

CMC match grade. I've had two one for an officer 1911 and now for my fullsize love em.

My favorite are Wilson ETMs. The 47Ds have always worked great for me too.

I've had zero failures with my stock Ed Brown 7 rounders. I believe they are made by Metalform.

Wilson 47D's or Mecgar.

Wilson 47D's has vastly improved the reliability of my Springer GI with JHP's. With the factory mags it would not feed JHP at all. With the Wilsons it is reliable enough for HD duty.

The ACT mag that came with my Rock Island has given me issues since I bought the gun in January. Still waiting to receive the Wolff spring I ordered for it. I've also tried out Checkmates GI and their Hybrid with the "high performance" spring. The GI worked fine for me, yet the Hybrid was giving me issues. I picked up this weekend a Chip McCormick 10rd power mag, and I must say it looks great with a 1911. I have yet to try it out though, but did notice that the 10 rounds sit more secure, than the 7 in the Hybrid with the high performance spring.

I mostly use G.I. surplus mags, they work as well for me as the others.

Just blow them out with brake clean and oil once in awhile, most mag failures are because they are dirty
