i am looking to get my first ar in 9mm. i am torn between getting a standard lower and adding a hahn precision top 9mm mag block or a dedicated lower like dd or rra. below are links to the options. i will be making it a sbr. while it would be cool to be able to shoot .223 also i would prefer a reliable 9mm. i rather not have to mess with having to shoot 1000 plus rounds to get it to function. which pick stripped lower and a block or a dedicated 9mm lower?

thanks,

liquid

Go with a dedicated lower, you'll appreciate it later.

Get a .300 BLK SBR instead. All the benefits of a pistol caliber (SUBSONIC, FTW) plus the benefits of full-power loads that exceed .223 performance - all from a short barrel.

And ammo is not all that expensive, especially if you reload.

I would check with Lone Wolf Dist to see when there lowers will be available again. They are much cheaper than a complete lower from DD and take glock mags. I tried the mag block with no luck. The LWD lower is awesome. It is my favorite AR to shoot.

Thanks for the info so far. I rather stick with 9mm since I have a can I could use also. The glock mags would be a nice bonus ill look into it. What block did u use?

What do you think you will spend on the whole package?

I used the Cproducts block which was complete crap. The Hahn block was much better but not 100%. The lone wolf is a dedicated lower and is 100%.

i dont have a set price limit. i want to stay around 1k plus mags and tax stamp. thansk for the input on hahn if i really want to shoot .223 i could just register one of my other ar's. i still have a lmt upper i havent mounted i am sure i could work out a trade for a shorter upper. so other then lwd is there any other maker i should seek?

thanks,

If I ever take the jump I want to the one that uses glock mags. It could use my pistol mags and my pistol could use my carbine mags.

I went the route with a RRA adapter block on a 5.56mm Lower for my SBR. Preserves my ability to move back to the .223 upper should I want to. I like the 25rd Uzi mags and the ability to use Colt 9mm mags is a plus for me. It worked right out of the gate and I've been completely satisfied with it.

the 7" looks awesome. what is the shortest out there? i changed my mind i am going to go with .223. i hardly shoot anyway, maybe 6 times a year. when i do shoot i prefer pistols so i am not worried about the cost of ammo. what really pushed me over the edge is that my .223 can doesnt look good on my 16" ar. id love to have it on something a little shorter. i am gonna get a spikes lower, get it engraved, submit the ppw and in a few months ask u guys what upper to get.

You need to get the barrel and overall length before you submit the paperwork...

no i want it for sure. i just want it on something shorter. so i would have to pick what length i want before i submit the ppw? knowing me that will take months lol, i had plan on using the 90 days to figure that along with going with color of all black.

If you go with a 7in 223, be aware that recoil is rather violent and is it LOUD.

Had a couple of 7"/223 uppers, sold both. 10.5"is the shortest I use in the 223.

You may want to consider just buying a 5.56 SBR then decide what kind of
9MM conversion best fits your needs.

I have the Colt type mag blocks that go in my RR machinegun (5.56MM) and it runs REAL good with 9MM ball and my reloads.
CDNN has the Colt style mags at around $30.00 each.

If you have questions I am Class 3 in WPB, FL.
