Hey guys.......I got back from my deployment to Afghanistan about 5 days ago, and decided its time to get myself a nice rifle.

My experiences in Afghanistan led me to look towards LWRC; especially after seeing how well the DEA agents M6A2s worked over there.....they ran like a sewing machine in one particular TIC....not a hiccup or jam, and they definitely don't take care of their rifles compared to us Infantry types...(edit for clarity: we clean our rifles when we wake up, after each meal, before we go to bed, and after every mission)...so I decided to get the exact same rifle they had. I bought an LWRC M6A2 DEA, which has all the bells and whistles, including the Advanced Combat Bolt, EXO coated Bolt Carrier, and an EXO coated "star chamber" (military lingo for barrel extension). The trigger group also has the EXO coating on it as well, which provides for a very, very smooth, and crisp trigger pull.

For optics, I purchased a Trijicon ACOG TA01NSN, which is calibrated for the 14.5 inch barrel, firing a 62gr bullet. I was going to buy a TA31RCO, but I disliked how in Afghanistan, my ACOGs reticle would be so bright, it was distracting while aiming. Most of us put a piece of tape over the fiber-optic tube. Even then, it didn't work too well, as the tape would literally melt off in the heat.

I opted for the TA01NSN, due to the fact that I liked the back-up iron sights on top of it, and the fact that the reticle was black, and only illuminated in dark conditions. Being calibrated for a 14.5 inch barreled flat-top, firing 62gr 5.56mm helped seal the deal as well.

I took off the VLTOR EMod that came on it, and bought a VLTOR IMod Standard, to keep the package as compact as possible, and because I don't like the butterfly latch on the EMod; the IMod Standard fulfills my needs, without paying $200 for an LMT SOPMOD.

As for lights, I added a Surefire M600A Scout Light, which is nice and compact, while 100 lumens is plenty of light a package that compact.

The Grip Pod GPS-02 is perfect for this rifle, as I wanted this to be a medium to semi-long range rifle that was simple, and somewhat streamlined. I had a great experience with my Grip Pod GPS-02 over in the sandbox, and its perfect; its rugged, its reliable, and its good enough to serve as a bi-pod for medium to semi-long range shots.....of course if the rifle was a dedicated DMR, I would've put a Harris BRM on it.

I was able to achieve all I wanted to with this rifle, and got a ton of leftover stuff I bought....all the leftover stuff will probably go on my LWRC M6-SPR MOD 0 that I bought as well.....which should reach my FFL tomorrow. I will post pics of that one when I get it as well.

Anyway, here are the pics:

Thanks for all the kind words, gentlemen. As for the DEA in Afghanistan; I can't go into details about what we were doing, but I can tell you the DEA rolls around in what are called F.A.S.T. teams....they are pretty much decked out with gear that rivals what you'll see Special Forces with, and they are VERY well-versed with anything having to do with drugs, weapons or explosives. Most of them are former military, and they are the most professional people I've had the honor to work with. As for their rifles; they all had the same set-up:

LWRC M6A2 DEA w/ SureFire K-series mini suppressor, and a Trijicon ACOG TA31ECOS (the Flat Dark Earth ACOG w/ the RMR on it) or Aimpoint T-1 Micro, and a Viking Tactics MK2 sling. They had nice stuff....

Hey Airborne Infantry!!!

I've gotta few questions, and you're the perfect person to ask, given your recent experience and knowledge.

1. When you say that the DEA's LWRCs worked like sewing machines, is that to say that current issue M4/M16s were having difficulties in comparison?

2. Had you used a Grip Pod GPS-02 before?

3. Do you use your TA01NSN with both eyes open like you did with your issue TA31? I ask because the Trijicon web-site does not list the TA01NSN as having the BAC (both eyes open) capability.

4. How does she shoot?

Thanks for your service, and input on the LWRC, I've been eyeing them for awhile now.

I will be glad to answer your questions-

1. Our M4s require a good bit of TLC, simply due to the fact that the environment is so dusty over there; we have had maybe 2-3 instances of M4s jamming over there. I will say that it can be attributed to the crappy mags we have. The thing I appreciate the most about the LWRCs, is that they can be run dry if need be, due to the EXO coating on all the parts, which makes it a LOT less prone to collecting that moon dust that is over there. I love my Direct Impingment M4 carbine at work, and wouldn't trade it for anything.....except an LWRC, and that's because I could really appreciate the EXO coating on the internals of the LWRC. If only the Army could apply that stuff to our M4s we have now.....it'd be glorious!

2. I have used a Grip Pod GPS-02, and I have one on my M4 at work; it is standard issue for us. At first, we had the all-polymer model, and those broke so much, we replaced all the Grip Pods in the Battalion with the steel-reinforced GPS-02 as time went on.

3. I don't use my TA01NSN with both eyes open, but if need be, I found I can still use it with both eyes open, just that my eye won't pick up the reticle as fast as the BAC models, because its all black. The back-up iron sights that are attached on the ACOG itself are good to go; they are (according to Trijicon, zeroed out to 50 meters with 62gr 5.56 NATO). Honestly, I prefer the TA01NSN, rather than the TA31....reason being, the reticle gets SUPER BRIGHT, and its annoying. In all honesty, I'd rather have the TA31ECOS w/ the RMR mounted on it, like some other Battalions in my unit are getting soon.

Hope this helps!:wavey:

Just an update for you guys- my M6-SPR MOD 0 came in today. Its got the Patriot Brown cerakote coating, as has the EXO coated trigger group, chamber, bolt, and bolt carrier. Also has the Advanced Combat Bolt, and the new LWRC "Skirmish" BUIS.....think HK 416 style, but they flip up.

All I've done to is so far is add the MagPul AFG, and I replaced the standard buttpad on the ACS stock, with the enhanced buttpad. Everything else is stock, including the QD sling socket behind the buffer tube. I do love how balanced the rifle is; its actually LIGHTER than my M6A2 DEA. I will probably run an Aimpoint PRO (If I can find one....) or an EOTech XPS2-2.

Airborne so you would go with an Imod stock over a magpul ctr or moe?

I prefer the cheekweld that the IMod gives you over the CTR. I find I tend to use the CTR for optics not requiring a uniform cheekweld, such as an EOTech, where as optics requiring a specific cheekweld (ACOG), I go for VLTOR. I did have a VLTOR EMod on it, but I wanted the rifle to be more compact, so I switched to an IMod Standard. I still switch the stocks out depending on what type of shooting I'm doing.

Close to medium range, I put the IMod on, where as longer range, I put the EMod on, due to the extra inch of cheekweld.

Also, pics have been fixed. The ACOG TA01NSN has since been sold and replaced with an ACOG TA31ECOS

Updated pic of my LWRC M6-SPR:

I got tired of the EMod sometimes going on my M6A2 DEA, so I'm sending the M6-SPR back to LWRC to have a MagPul UBR installed. LWRC is doing it for free, and I don't wanna mess up my rifle.....from my research, the castle nut staking is a #$^#* to get through.....and I don't know of any AR-specialized 'smiths around here, so off to LWRC it goes. 5 day turnaround time, at the most.

Did that color come standard?

The M6A2 DEA (the one with the VLTOR IMod Stock in my pics) is LWRC's factory anodized finish called Multi-Regional Earth (MRE). It came standard, but LWRC no longer does the MRE anodized finish, due to the cost, and the lead times. They now do Cerakote.....you can still get Multi-Regional Earth anodizing done by U.S. Anodizing though.

The M6-SPR MOD 0 (has VLTOR EMod in pics) is factory Cerakote, in Patriot Brown.....its like a darker coyote brown. The Multi-Regional Earth is pretty close to SOCOM Dark Earth (darker than Flat Dark Earth, lighter than Coyote Brown).....overall, I think the Multi-Regional Earth looks the best. :wavey:

Yes, and Yes. You can use any QD Swivel that's out there; me personally, I prefer Troy Industries QD Swivels, because they are Stainless Steel, with a deep black phosphate coating.....you literally gotta clean the Troy QD Swivels before putting them on, or the black phosphate will get everywhere. The ACOG on the above rifle is a TA31ECOS-G, which has the green illuminated crosshairs, as opposed to red. My eye picks up green a lot better than red.

What is a good sling mount to get behind the longer that goes on the buffer tube extension. I am thinking of the magpul asap but I don't know if I want to ever use a single point sling let alone something with the hooks or snaps.

I figured if I have to take my buffer tube out and such I might as well put a sling mount there in case I wanna use one down the road. I would rather spend a few bucks now instead of fiddling with it later and it's not going to add much weight

Blades? Oh, I got blades.

I like the MOD CQD Mark 1 the best; its like a pocket sword, but its very beefy, and stout....pretty sure I could shoot it and it would be ok. :faint:

Its 154CM steel blade is easy to sharpen; I prefer 154CM, as its a nice compromise between edge longevity and ease of sharpening.

Yeah would love to have one made by MOD (not blackhawk)... which I'm pretty sure its near impossible to get one made in USA from MOD anymore... I have a few autos by MOD before they went to Blackhawk, who has them made in china maybe... or somewhere overseas... but I'm very jealous... I have the 0300 myself and its very beefy but also very capable.

I love MOD; it was depressing, to say the least, when I started seeing Chinese-made CQD Mark 1s. :faint:

At least Emerson's will never be made outside the U.S.....I just don't see Ernie Emerson letting that happen.

Yeah I'll still shop around once in awhile for a MOD model... but they're hard to find and when I do the price is out the roof... I have a cqc-8 banana and a folding karambit by mr. emerson, very well made knives... I recently convexed the edge on my cqc 8... not sure I'm happy w/ it yet or not, seems to hold an edge better but can't quite seem to get it as sharp as ole Ernie did. I'm thinkin of tryin to get my hands on one of the new spyderco paramilitary 2's... good lookin' knife.
As far as fixed blades go I'm a sucker for ESEE... and I've been eyeballin a shrike hawk from RMJ tactical...

Noveske Endplate QD Socket....if you decide you want a setup like the MagPul ASAP, just put a QD socket in it and hook your MagPul MS2 sling to it.

That looks pretty cool. How is the troy battlemount thing here

Never used one, but I say go for it. Everything I have used and have on my rifle that is Troy, is rock solid! :wavey:

airborne I think I am going to go with the original noveske because some people are having trouble with the stock closing all the way with some of the other end plates on there. Have not seen a lot of information on the troy yet though. I love my troy quad rail..
