What are your thoughts?

In particular steel vs aluminum?

What size?

What brand?

Whatever else....

Peacekeeper RCB, formerly known as Winchester, originally known as Wilmoth. Steel, heavier construction than ASP, most of the weight is in the top half so kinetic energy works for you. The only drawback is that it's heavier, and no one makes a holder for it that is as good as the ones that Monadnock makes for their batons and for ASPs.

Hmm, I like that. I am reading up on it now. Bent an ASP and I have been told I can buy and carry anything I want now...I dont think I want an ASP...but I do want to hear what everyone thinks.

I carry a 26" ASP. There is no particular reason for that, its just what I bought. Its a tool that I dont use very often, but when I have had to use it, it works like it is supposed to

Standard crap ASP in black with rubber grip, 26" of worthless steel.

I went back to the good ole fashioned 29" straight Dymondwood. Gets a lot of attention, more than the gun or anything else for that matter. People come up, ask about the big whacking stick, and leave quiet and respectable.

Saw a few dozen of these in our old store room a few weeks ago. Was told they can no longer be issued except in an emergency such as a riot.

I would really like to have one.

If the ASP was serviceable and bent while saving your bacon, did what it was supposed to do, and you already have a good holster for it, I'd say get another ASP.

26" wood straight stick. Dept issues the ASP but doesn't care what you carry. A lot of guys carry em in polymer and aluminum as well...

The Peace Keeper RCB also gets my vote. They are SOLID and they do what they are supposed to do. I noticed in the old thread there was mention of it opening too easy and being loud... Simple fix if you get one like that is to open the bottom and bend out the little metal piece. It's so easy a 5yr old could fix it. The baton locks up tight and you are able to jab with it and not have it collpse.

Our old issue one was the Auto Lock. IMO that is the biggest piece of garbage out there. Half the time they don't lock right. Over time they can get to be a PITA to get closed up and they are not sturdy at all. I bent two of them in training striking the bag!!! I carried the POS for two weeks before I left in in the bag and would carry a SAP on me with my straight stick in the car. Now that we lost the SAP I carry the Peacekeeper in a sap pocket and the straight stick still rides in the car for the calls I expect to need it.

Yep. You can use the RCB for Koga techniques. Nothing like a forward thrust to take the wind out of someone's sails.

I carry a 21 inch ASP in the electroless (Shiny) finish. It has served me well for about 10 years now. I still carry a 26 straight baton and my old slightly warped 31 inch riot baton. Both straight batons are polycarbonate stuff.

I deployed my 26" Koga stick two nights ago. One shot to the lower leg immediately dropped the guy to the dirt and took the fight right out of him, with no injuries.
