I prefer the cleaner look of the Ruger.

Smaller roll-marks, no FCS.

Ruger for rollmarks and warrenty.

My choice would be Ruger.
Clean lines, no FCS, lack of relative markings.

The DE, looks like a Kimber wanna-be with STI billboards, not a slam on Kimber.

They are both supposed to be nice, I'm waiting for bac's comparison of them.

Probably the Ruger for the no FCS, but those black controls really irritate me. If it had all silver controls, I'd probably buy one. Because everyone on here knows that I always leave my 1911's completely bone stock. :whistling:

I have had my DE 1911-G for several months now. The first time out was absolutely an enjoyable experience. If one can get past the somewhat large rollmarks, you really discover what a fine 1911 this really is. The trigger is the most amazing thing about the DE 1911-G. It is smooth and light. Probably falls somewhere around 3 lbs. It is like running a hot knife through soft butter. It is just that smooth.

All that said, I am still waiting for my SR1911 to ship. The SR1911 is a nice looking pistol and has already had good reviews on its performance. I do see these two going head-to-head. I would be hard-pressed to choose one over the other.

The DE is a nice looking pistol.I had my mind made up to buy a Ruger in the near future, then the DE caught my eye while looking around Buds.
Did you have the FCS removed or did they add those recently?

I'm going through the same choice myself regarding the Ruger vs the DE 1911G as my first 1911. I think I slightly prefer the Ruger, however, the DE seems to be much more available and for that reason I may end up purchasing it (though I do wish they had left off the FCS like the early models). IF both were in front of me and were about the same price, I have a feeling I'd end up with the Ruger.

All that being said, I've read nothing but good things about both and think either will make a great first (for me anyway) 1911.

Evidentally, I did get one of the early models without the FCS. I think it is a much better looking model.

I don't mind the DE billboard, and I would prefer matching controls on the Ruger. Neither would be a dealbreaker for me. Both are great values at the pricepoint and solid guns from everything I've heard. I would be happy to own either.

It does look a lot better.I find fcs utterly useless,as well as ugly.

I kinda like the look with the black controls.

If you like the contrasting controls, it is well done.

Both are nice guns. IO haven't had them to the range together yet, but the Ruger is certainly good competition in the sub $700 price range for the DE and Spartan.

I will say that the DE's trigger is much lighter than the Ruger's. It feels about 2lbs lighter.

The DE without FCS would be my choice now, after seeing that.

The other side doesn't really bother me, but that would look badass if the did both sides like this.

I don't mind the DE rollmarks, actually. I would prefer them to be smaller, but it is what it is, I guess.

Why Choose. Buy them both.

Ruger wins on sights and rollmarks. DE wins on trigger. I got the DE before the FCS were added and before the Ruger came to the marketplace but I wouldn't pick differently today.

I'm not sure why they added the FCS later. :dunno:

It's very strange. All the pre-release marketing photos showed FCS so my guess is that was the initial design, and then somehow the first batch came without them. I wish companies would get rid of them, they are terrible. STI loves them too.

Oh well, maybe our DE1911's are worth $5 more without the FCS as a "first edition"

Yeah, quite a few companies love them. :dunno:
