I have read though the other thread and before it went all nuts.... a lot of good info I am really leaning toward a Kimber Match II, or a STI Trojan 9mm. I am just not able to go out very much at all with the .45 TRP and it is annoying to not be able to practice that much on the gun I like to shoot the most.

This would be selling my TRP and picking up one of these, I just do not have the funds to keep both. The other option is to sell the TRP and my AR-15 and try to go after a nighthawk or something in that strata. I am not sure what I should do. I want to use the 9mm 1911 as a fun gun, IDPA, USPSA, etc... I have a Sig that I use for HD, and a Sig I use for CCW.

I also thought about an STI Eagle, but I am not sure I would like it.

My EDC is a EMP,.......love it.
I would like to pick up a Colt Commander in 9mm.........if I ever find one.

STI Trojan would be a great choice for what you want IMO. Go for it.

I was looking at the same exact situation recently and I decided to start reloading. For less than the cost of a new gun, you can start rolling your own .45 for the price (or less) of 9mm. I have buddies locally that will let me use their press until I can afford one of my own. Just something to think about.

The STI 2011's are really nice. Out of my 9mm 1911's, my Edge is my most favorite.
My other 9mm's are a SACS "mil-spec"/hi-cap, DW Guardian and SA Loaded

I second reloading...I haven't done it yet, but as soon as I can afford it, I'm going to start. Brian Enos has 550B kit's for ~$1k but you can get a Lee Classic kit for like $150.

I was thinking of reloading but I just don't have a good spot right now to do the setup. I used to use a friends but they moved so that is out.

I was looking Eagle over Edge just due to IDPA. I want to have the option of playing in what is the closet match to my house.

I would be more unwilling to ditch the TRP if it was a custom or something really nice, but they may be hard to find at times but it is still just a TRP. I need to figure out what a good price is for a used one that looks new.... kind of annoying everyone deletes prices when items sell.

Starts at about $2000 for a basic 9mm Custom Carry.

Coke and Dillon.

Actually, the LnL seems to be an awesome press for the coin, if you are mechanically inclined enough to troubleshoot any problems you might have. I've heard they can be quite finicky with setup. I think Cabela's was running them for $400 though + Hornady's free bullets.

I could come up with a way to wait.... Whom is this George you speak of...

I am going to have to figure out prices and list some stuff. I have them for trade put what I want is so limited I doubt I will find that.

If I can ever get a good roof on my shed out building I can convert it to a reloading shed.

The 1911 makes shooting 9mm seem like cheating. That said, I have to side with the camp that suggests reloading. No matter how small your place is, I can't believe you don't have 3 feet somewhere for a Dillon square deal b.

Exactly. You can make it work. You don't need a lot of space. Hell, I've seen folks use these and crank out load after load.

It is just not in the cards right now. I want to do the 9mm for now and may setup for reloading later.

I put the AR up we shall see I guess. I will put the TRP up next once I figure out a fair price.

The other option is a 1kish 9 and keep the TRP. I think I would be happier with one nicer 9 1911 though.

Those SA CS guns are so purdy, I am just not sure I could do the wait... I would have to share a Sig with my wife... or shoot the wheel guns.

Have to sell the AR first though, guessing it will take awhile.

Hokie1911
06-16-2011, 09:54
Best 9mm 1911's around $1k IMHO are..

STI Trojan $1k
STI Ranger2 $1k
STI Escort $1,100
SA EMP $1,100

skdmrklcy
06-16-2011, 10:26
I want an EMP sometime but not for this purpose. Nice little guns though.

Would you do STI Trojan or SA Loaded/Target/Whatever 9mm that is about the 900ish price.

The Trojan sure is a lot easier to find.

Yea, a bit more if you start adding checkering, bull barrel, etc. I had a 2nd 9mm 1911 on order from them, but had to cancel the order in early 2010 because of health problems. It would have been a great one too. But, I had it priced around $2700-$2800, if I remember right.

I saw a 9mm loaded with FIXED sights today at my local gunstore. Always tempted to get that model (I don't like the all black, adjustable sight model). But, I know that with my 9mm Custom Shop Operator, I'd never be happy with a production version 9mm Springer anymore.

Hokie1911
06-16-2011, 11:27
I still can't believe for $2k they don't offer FS checkering. That's ridiculous.

skdmrklcy
06-16-2011, 11:34
A mild FS checkering is okay... the TRP is a little much for me... I am pretty sure you all mentioned it a few times. I tend to not listen.

I was also looking into a new slide/barrel as I understand you can do that. You just have to get the slide fit to the frame with out messing up the frame so it still fits the other slide. I wonder if that is something SA CS will do.

I just recently became a 1911 owner and both of my Wilson's are 9mm's. I thought it was pricey at the time, but my CQB Elite is worth every penny. Picked it up for $2800. Made me a Wilson fan for life.

to get a complete top end (with Nowlins barrel) was ~$900 when the original owner of my .38S Mil-spec had it fit with a 9mm top end. also the frame will have to be cut for a ramped barrel because the ramp angle between the .45 and 9mm are different. The hi-cap frame that i had started as a .45, but was cut/modified for the .38S/9mm. now you would have to get a new .45 barrel as well. you will also need to swap out the ejector between the 9mm and .45, so it's not really a quick/easy swap between calibers.

I still can't believe for $2k they may not run properly and need multiple returns, to only come back worse then they left. That's ridiculous.
