I just got my 29 year old Colt 1911 refinished. Here are the before and after photos. This is the original satin nickel finish. There are a lot of wear marks because I carried this gun for over 20 years.

I couldn't be happier with the AFTER unless it was free. Total time was exactly two weeks from the time I shipped it until I had it back. The only part they replaced was the grip screws because the old ones were corroded. The other parts were all refinished. Total cost was $190 for the refinish and $12 for the screws. I only specified black slide and sights and aluminum frame. The gunsmith decided which colors to use on the small parts and he did a great job.

The only thing left to do is replace the Pachmayr grips. If I can still get them with the pony on them, I'll do it.
Good results like these make me significantly less grumpy. In fact, when I ran 100 flawless rounds through it, I was actually happy.
