It's been pretty hot lately so I found the time to get to a buddies farm to go shooting. It's much better than the indoor range's and we can draw from holsters, shoot multiple target...basically realistic shooting.

I decided to run my Wilson CQB to preserve my sanity, plus I don't like dealing with failures every 100 rounds. I thought I was in the clear of problems but was wrong. I'm still trying to figure out what happened, but I know it shouldn't been an issue.

Rather than typing, I will let some lousy pictures show the damage :steamed:.

I don't know how this happened, all I did was put it in and out of a holster while training to be better prepared. Why in the world would this happen? I thought with the price tag it would never wear, be self cleaning, and walk my dogs. I should have read all the threads on stopping holster wear... oh why didn't I listen.

I'd get it refinished but would only tear it up inside of a week, oh well, at least it runs. At least it's not Black-T :tongueout:

How many times do you think you pulled it in and out of your holster? A couple of times and that kind of wear I would be a little upset for the amount of money you spent on it. A couple of hundred I could see it happening for sure.

Do you want a gun or a museum piece. Gun are tools to be used and they wear with use, it's just the way it is. I personally think a gun, especially a 1911 with wear marks has character. A pristine gun is an un-used gun. And if you are paying $3000 for a Wilson, it should be used and used often. Just my 2 cents.

Honestly, if I ever do get it refinished, I plan to use NP3/NP3+.

NP3 will wear too.

The only choice for holster wear is hard chrome with a LEATHER holster. I carried a Walther P99c for over 3 years. Daily insertion and removal from a leather holster. NEVER a mark on it.

With a polymer holster - you will get wear in the form of the matte hard chrome looking shiny.

NP3 is the best rust resistant finish, but will not resist holster wear better than most of the other aftermarket finishes.

I too prefer polymer holsters for IWB carry. But, hard chrome and leather is the only way to go if you don't want to accept wear.

Truthfully - I do not holster guns that I worry about. I only holster a few of my guns

I know, I've had a pistol in NP3. I'd only get NP3 for something different, but I doubt I will get a refinish since I'm not worried about it.

I will disagree with you on HC being the better choice, at least IME. I will say for holster wear Ionbond is above anything I've had, and I've torn up Glocks before. I've noticed some shinny spots on my Baer and its HC lower, but I have yet to see anything on my IB pistols.

The magwells on the IB pistols have held up surprisingly well, but the HC seems to scratch much easier than I thought. Not that I care either way.

should've bought a Dan Wesson with it's super secret black finish. :animlol:

yes Duty Treatment is pretty tough, i took a file to exterior parts of the gun without breaking the finish.
when i fit the thumb safety that i got from knedrgr, i thought that my files were dull. They weren't, it took a while before i broke through the Duty Treatment.

Nice 1911, even better with the wear :)

The only plastic this old P226ST has seen is a Comp-Tac OWB. The only reason I had it finished was because of the shock welds when I had the tac rail removed (you can see the shock welds in other photos). It's finished in Grayguns' Superblack finish.

Since then, it's been through two, two day training classes with several hundred draws from the Comp-Tac OWB.

The finish has done well, I think.

You know, I thought you were gonna tell us about malfunctions.
If holster wear is gonna make you give up on 1911's then you really should stick with Glocks.
If it shoots reliably and is accurate then your complaint is not all that serious.
If you leave it in the safe it should look new forever.
Just being hard on you because I've kept up with your posts on your torture test and all the other issues you've written about and I thought "oh crap, his gun is jamming still?"
Be happy if it is a good shooter.

I've only had a few minor issues with this CQB, so I'm happy. I've given up on my problematic 1911(s) until I find a smiff to unscrew the problems.

I have to say, I have finish wear on my Glocks too. They actually wear fairly easy with use

I disagree that Glocks wear "fairly easily". I carry my Glocks in a CBST(kydex) and they show wear on the slide release, but that's about it. The area just above the extractor shows minimal wear on the slide, where the top of the holster is, but it is very minimal.

It looks too new for me, but I was spending time shooting another pistol for most of this year. I plan to finish the year with this one and see how it holds up.

I never understood trailer queens, just like safe queens. I need to get my 69 Dart fixed so I can drive it again, I hate seeing it in the garage.
