IWB's look too uncomfortable, so I'm thinking OWB.
This is all new to me.

OWB is the only way I carry.I have tried several different IWB's with several different guns.Never could find a comfortable combination that worked for me.I now carry my Sig 239 in a DeSantis speed scabbard. This gun/holster combo is the most comfortable I have ever worn.

I always wear loose untucked shirts, so I cant see a reason to mess with an IWB.

Thanks

For me, IWB works better for concealment but I do carry my Glock(s) in an Don Hume beltslide OWB fairly regularly as well ....

Need a price range really, a Good OWB can probably run from $50-$150+. Also figure on needing to get a gun belt. Otherwise your holster is gonna sag badly (yes, even on your heavy belt from Wal Mart/Tractor Supply, etc..), not to mention be uncomfortable. Expect $50-$100 on a gun belt.

Generally speaking, loose untucked shirts are what you wear with an IWB as well.

I understand you wrote that it "looks" uncomfortable. Don't knock it till you've tried it! I carry a Glock 17 off-duty in a Blade-Tech IWB holster. I like it quite a bit. :)

My favorite OWB holster is 5 Shot leathers pancake holster. The fitting is perfect, not too tight, not loose, and you get that click when you holster your gun letting you know its in there. I have them for my Glock 23, 5" 1911 and commander size 1911. They keep the gun close to your body and ride just right. It is the most concealable and comfortable holster I've ever used. My second choice is the Mitch Rosen Premier (mine is the express model) I own a lot of different custom holsters and these two are the ones I always end up wearing.

I am quite fond of the Don Hume H721 with thumb break. I have one for each gun I carry along with a 1.5" Beltman.

I gave up on IWB carry years ago. I carry either a Jframe or a P239 in it and it conceals well (not perfectly) with a dark polo.

It completely depends on you, your belt, and the particular style of gun. What is ideal for a 1911 might not work for a Glock.

You'd have to have one heck of a bulky, loose fitting covering garment to cover most Safariland holsters.

I always used to carry OWB too because I never found an IWB holster that was comfortable. Then I tried the Galco King Tuck (similair to Crossbreed Super-Tuck, IIRC) - and found it to be VERY comfortable. Its now what I wear most of the time for my Glock 19. The large piece of leather behind the holster spreads the weight out and molds to your body's shape. The only downside to it that I've found is that there is no way to adjust the tension of the holster, and if I turn it upside down, my pistol falls out of it with just a tiny shake.

My favorite OWB style is the original Alessi CQC, now very well rendered by TT Gunleather.

In "bang for the buck plus quick delivery" terms, it's hard to beat the FIST Basic or Close Cropped Basic; basically the same money as Galco but much superior product.

The Kramer horsehide canted scabbard is unlike anything else, and if you see one in the used market, I'd definitely buy it and try it.

I wear my Crossbreed Super Tuck everyday, but I have a Bianchi Black Widow for the occasional OWB carry. It is the second one of these that I have. The first one is over 20 years old and still looks and functions like new.

Not true. The conceal ability of a Safariland is directly related to the mounting system used. I can easily conceal a 1911 with a T-shirt when using the adjustable can't mount from Wilson Combat.

what kind of shirts do you guys wear? I'd have to look like an absolute slob in a huge shirt in order to hide an OWB.

If there is some kind of trick to OWB carry let me know, it's more comfortable, but all I have is a Galco FLETCH for a G23.

I always figured it's impractical for summer carry.

Normal shirts. The galco fletch is an excellent holster and easily concealed. Very practical for summer carry. What gunbelt are you using? If you want an edge, try a glock sport holster. Flatter than just about anything else, and they're not expensive.

I wear the same size tshirts that I would wear if I didn't carry, and conceal a G23 OWB in shorts and tshirts all the time. I have the CompTac gun belt as well, excellent choice. I use a Galco Cop Series, which is similar to the FLETCH except the FLETCH is a much better holster. I had one before I had the gun belt, and returned it do to it flopping and sagging to much on an inadequate belt, and kick myself all the time for not keeping it.

The Galco Concealable is another excellent OWB option, high ride just like the FLETCH, but without the thumb break. Galco forward molds their holsters, and that keeps the grip of the gun up tight against your side, making it ideal for the 3-4:00 carry position.

Heres my Cop Series on my CompTac belt.

Big +1 on the Glock Sport Combat holster. I own one as well, and would highly recommend it.
Ambidextrous, and able to carry any Glock (there are two different sizes, one for .45 and 10mm, and another for all other models)
Good retention and does indeed hold your weapon very flat.

I also cannot stress enough the importance of a good gunbelt BTW.
Without that, you're pretty much p----ng in the wind.

Much of this depends on your body shape/build. I have broad shoulders and a narrow waist. Therefore, shirts tend to hang on me more than others creating a nice cavity on either side of my waist. It is very easy to conceal an OWB holster (such as the Galco Concealable) because of this. Take someone that has a large waist that is perfectly in line with their shoulders plus a decent sized gut for example. Their shirts would fit much tighter around the waist line and OWB would not work well for them. This is why each person must find what works for themselves. Its the same premise in choosing a firearm. It is a bit naive for someone to expect that what works well for them would work equally as well for someone else.......

Good luck with your choice!

Probably the most overlooked aspect of carrying a gun. People spend hundereds on a gun, up to a hundred on a holster and then thread a walmart special belt through it.
