View Full Version : Glock 9mm Major load data
Been researching lots of fourms for 9mm major loads and am surprised that there is not a lot of information for glocks since they require a shorter OAL when compared to the 1911 style open guns.
Here is what I have found so far and hope this will get some discussion and data started:
Bullet:124gr MG JHP, OAL:1.145, 7.7gr HS-6, CCI sp = PF 168
124gr PD FMJ, 1.145, 7.2gr Autocomp, WSPM = PF 172
125gr Zero, 1.15 , 8.1gr HS-6, WSPM = PF 175

Magazines will be your major restriction loading "major" for a Glock. Secondly an aftermarket barrel is a must. I would go with a KKM. Have you check BE's forums yet? Not many if any 9mm major shooters here at GT.

Nice chart. Realisticly, you better add 30fps to those numbers to make sure you get the PF you want in all temps & thru all guns. Nothing worse than traveling a long distance & shoot great then be DQ because your ammo came up 10fps short.:crying:
You are right about the lack of open shooters with glocks. I live on BE, but as mentioned above, there is a lack of info in this subject when it comes to glocks. I know what it takes to build an open gun. Have been talking with Bob Carver quite a lot. It is not the weapon I am concerned about but the limited reload data for major. I have been shooting a long time so I know the PF's for the loads and have that chart above. I am looking for powder and OAL combo that keeps me from doing a compressed round. I know on the longer OAL's that Autocomp and HS-6 does not need to be compressed, but on these shorter OAL's I don't know.

Just curious as to how short do you believe you will be needing to load? I know you can go up to and beyond SAMMI with Glock 9mm mags, just not as long as 2011's.
Are you gonna have your barrel reamed and throated to accommodate the longest rounds possible?

Look in the Lyman 49 Manual for 9X21mm data. They have a couple loads that come close or actually make Major. You will have to go +P for a cushion. 9X21mm is just 9mm loaded long (usually 1.169" but also a longer case, so make sure you have enough tension on the bullet). So you should be able to load it in your 9mm. Most people will say there is no within Sammi Spec 9mm Major. It would seem to be true because you need a cushion and you won't have it going to even 9X21mm data. I would not do it with a Glock Barrel.
Edit. I don't know why you would think Glock needs special load data to make major. Lots of 9major data on BE.
Check he Brian Enos Forum for 9mm Major load data. Lot's of USPSA shooters on that site.Been researching lots of fourms for 9mm major loads and am surprised that there is not a lot of information for glocks since they require a shorter OAL when compared to the 1911 style open guns.

I have an open glock g22 with a 9mm KKM conv. barrel carver 4 port comp
I use 6.8 gr auto comp with a 124 fmj seated 1.155 about 170pf
Has any one considered the safety of pushing a cartridge so far outside its design limit?
The manufacturer's recommended max for Auto Comp is 5.2gn.
Gamemanship is fun, but not at the cost of safety.
If you charge using a long drop tube, you can use a lot of Blue Dot for velocity. I have used 8.5gn of Blue Dot with a 125gn JSP for a PF of 163 and NO sign of pressure, including case expansion. Not earth shattering, but I was pleased.

125 GR. SIE FMJ AutoComp .355" 1.090" 4.7 1055 28,900 PSI 5.2 1120 33,300 PSI
Complete data explains things a little better. That is at 1.090". That is why 9mm Major loads really long.
I've got a G34 slightly modified to shoot Open. My go-to major load is 8.5grns. HS-6 w/124grn. jacketed bullet (brand varies depending on what's cheapest at the given moment.)

rick: my data is for 115gr PD FMJ's and I do not shoot competition so this is probably of no value but:
1.130 OAL
1222 Glock 17 (my chrono)
6.1 gr Power Pistol
CCI SPP
