Pick myself up a 9mm Tactical as a beater for the range. I shoot 3-500 rounds a weeks and don't have the time to keep up with reloading 45acp.I'm sure I will do a few odds & ends to it when I get it and read a bunch of positive reviews on it .Curious to see how durable & dependable it will be out of the box.

My 9mm Tactical was a POS even after a return trip to the factory. Other people seem to have really good luck with theirs though.

I love mine only problem I had with it was the ambi safety needed to be fitted a tad better. Little filing and ambi safety was perfect even thought it was ditched for Colt GI safety. Personal thing I am not left handed and I find the ambi to be unsightly other then that Love my RIA 9mm.

I've had good luck with Rock Island 1911's. The 5" Tactical did have to go back to them for a loose front sight, but that's been the only issue. The 3.5" GI and the 5" Match model have been perfect. I'd like to see a Rock Island done up with some custom work. I started to have Ron Phillips spruce one of mine up before he went back to Wilson. But drug my feet on getting it to him. :crying:Would have been a really cool gun too.

Well hopefully if it runs good I have a few plans for it when I have the time.

Checker the front strap ,ball cut the slide and Cerakote it.

Ive thought about picking up a 9mm RIA Tactical just because their so damn cheap. Id like a 9mm 1911 but I don't want to even spend as much as a S.A. loaded costs.

My first 1911 was the RIA Tactical in 9mm I kinda went back and forth about 45 vs 9mm then it dawned on me.

9.79 for a box of 9mm ammo (brass case)
17.95 fora box of 45ACP ammo (brass case)

them are the two cheapest prices for brass case ammo on ammotogo.com

That is almost a 2-1 ratio so that means I get get to shoot 2x's more if I am shooting 9mm. That was the deciding factor when i got to the range I go to enjoy my self not worry if I gonna have enough ammo.

That is exactly why I bought it. No time to reload and I can buy blazer 9mm ammo for what it cost me to reload 45acp per box.

Exactly. I have plenty of handguns, but every time I go shoot my TRP it is like $0.35 a shot. Basically, Id like to go to the range and shoot a 1911 and have it cost me around $60 rather than well over $100.

It hit the shop today. I swapped out the rear sight with Heinie slatpros that I cut to ledge style. I also removed the barrel bushing and fitted a SA GI I had around the shop.
For a $400 gun the fit was pretty tight with no side to side play with a little vertical play.Barrel bushing was a bit loose (reason it was replaced). No barrel movement while in battery.

RIA also polished the feed ramp.

I gonna try to hit the range with it tomorrow.

Shot it today. All I can say is wow! $425 ?? Shot just as good as SW Pro series 9mm 1911. 150rds with out an issue.
Shoots a bit low for me so I was gonna swap out the front sight with a FO anyways.

My RIA Tac has been flawless. I do need to change out the sights as I don't like them. I have just painted the front sight before my last range trip and it helped a lot.

I still feel more comfortable with my G19, but the Tac 9 is really close.

I almost went with the Spartan but I'm happy with the $200 cheaper gun. For what I paid for it I could only get pretty much a slide & frame for a build.
I ball cut the slide today while I was at the mill. I'm going to swap out the extractor & firing pin stop because of clocking and install a GI recoil setup. Then hit it with some Cerakote and FO front sight .

Nice work. What front sight did you put on? Also, what did you have to do to make it fit? I've got an RIA in 45 that has the "Novak" sight cuts, which from what I read are close but different, and I wouldn't mind putting a FO front on and an adjustable rear.

I put the factory one back on for now. The factory sight cuts are .80 deep compaired to.75 on a Novak. I might just drill out the factory one and put a FO rod in it.

That's close to what I've read for dimensions. Dawson Precision has FO sights listed on their sight for a "Rock Island Cut". Link (http://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=SIGHTS+FRONT%3ARock+Island+Armory+Front+Sights:Rock+Island+Armory+Optic+ Inserted+Front+Sights)

Before I learned of the Dawson sight, I was thinking of milling the top of the slide to make the dovetail the correct depth.

Now that makes me laugh! The Pro Series is on several levels above. I've shot the RIA and own the Pro Series and the fit, finish, and accuracy are not even close. I guess for a guy who owns and shoots Glocks almost exclusively isn't a good person to get a range report from on 1911's.

Oh my he has a website and sprays paint on guns and ruins the grips. I'm impressed! I had no idea.... "me bowing" should call it lowendcustoms.com I don't see anything he does that I would pay money for. Seems to be good a trashing the value of a gun though. Sorry for being a jerk today... but comparing a RIA to good guns is a joke. Yeah it will give a springfield GI and a Taurus a run for its money but don't kid yourself. Cheap parts, and poor fitting does not impress me.

Apparently you missed the day when the class studied "sarcasm". I said "by your logic...". I could give a crap less what gun you have and never once in this forum have I ever made any comparison between what I own and what someone else does or does not own. My comment clearly (which went over your head I guess) was directed as a direct response to your comparison.

You are kind of talking in circles and not really making any valid points. In one post, you flame the sh1t out of the dude for saying his RIA shoots as well as a S&W, yet you say your S&W shoots as well/better as a Brown or Baer, etc... then above you say "to each his own". Which is it? You are entitled to your opinion, but he can't be entitled to his? I don't care either way, he has a nice RIA........so be it. You don't care for his comparison.....so be it. Your flaming of him and his work was seriously uncalled for. That's all.

I never own a $400 1911 and was impressed. I can help it if you spent the money for a PC gun that shoots ok.

You made it a personal attack and not a debate. You clearly have idea what you are talking about.

Yeah sure I'm the one who has no idea what I'm talking about. Now your attacking the Performance Center guns. But it was a very nice snide comment you tossed in at my PC. I have a more than just that would you like me to list them so that you can trash them and compare them to RIA. I just think you do ****ty work and don't know your ***** from a hole in the ground....nothing personal there.

How many RIA's have you owned or shot? Guessing zero other wise you wouldn't be trash talking them. As far as Isbbigdog and his work I think it looks pretty good on his website. Just because its not your cup of tea don't give you the right to bash someone.

First Amendment does last time I checked. You can google that if you don't know what it is. It has been fun guys but this is a never ending battle that I keep winning so I'm gonna go shoot a little before the sun goes down. Peace out guys! Keep up the good work gun painter!
