View Full Version : Harddrive failure
I have two 500 gig harddrives in a Raid One mirror.
The drive in port 0 has failed.
I have a replacement drive, but dont know which one is bad.
Anyone have any ideas which drive I should try first?
Could Port 0 be the upper drive or not?
Thanks in advance for any help.
the documentation for the hardware you are using will tell you which is port0.
which, leads to the question, what hardware make/model are you using?

The sata ports are typically labeled on the board, or card if thats what you have. Even if they are not if it truly is a hard drive failure you can unlpug one drive and attempt to boot. If it fails plug the other in and try to boot. Raid 1 will boot as a degraded array with a single drive.
Thanks, the Matrix console gave me the serial number of the bad drive.
How cool.

Once you replace the bad drive, do not for any reason, interrupt the process that follows. :) In other words, if it is storming outside and the power might go out, wait.
Once the RAID repairs itself, it should let you know.
