Weak Hand/Weak Side Barricade

Good Evening Mas,

Back in mid 70s I was a LEO. The qualification course at the time was the old PPC course and as you are aware required weak hand shooting from the weak side of the barricade at both 25 and 50yds. Your thoughts on whether I should shoot weak hand weakside or strong hand weak side barricade? I am speaking from a tactical perspective. Thanks for your time. Mike

The balance was always the fact that left hand on left side, right hand on right side pulled more of the shooter's body behind cover...but firing with the non-dominant hand was not conducive to optimum accuracy.

Back in the '70s or '80s, the late Jim Cirillo came up with an effective compromise that allowed "strong hand" shooting on the "weak hand" side of the barricade. Bend elbows into a tight Weaver stance, then rotate the gun 45 degrees outward toward the left if shooting left side barricade right-handed. This brought the gun to about the position it would be in if fired left handed, but slightly tilted, and gave similar cover protection to the shooter.

Downside was that turning the sights 45 degrees alters point of aim/point of impact. This varies shooter to shooter and needs to be individually tested by THAT shooter with THAT gun and THAT ammo at the various distances.
