Dear GTers, since getting a CZ SP01 Shadow (one of the world's sexiest guns), I have carried it a few times IWB in a Remora. Despite weighing about 2.5 lbs, I found CCWing it comfortable, save sitting down in a few cases.

Any of you guys have similarly heavy EDCs they care to tell about and their comfort level? I'm talking about 1911+ weight. My contention is that if you have a jolly good belt and holster, the weight of the gun is immaterial as far as comfort is concerned.

And by the way, the Shadow is an absolute joy to shoot!

A good belt and holster go a long way for carry. My crossbreed supertuck is good because it disperses the weight across a wide area with the 2 clips for support. I've carried a SW1911 and my 92fs in one and never felt the weight once. I still stick to my 26 just because it is easier to conceal.

This one weighs 45oz, loaded with 8 230gr Golden Sabers. The weight makes a lot of people balk, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest way. Good holster and belt makes it ride like a dream.

Wow, I have a aluminum frame, 4 inch Kimber that I carry sometimes. That's about as much weight as I would want to carry and that's with a Crossbreed and a gun belt.

The heaviest gun I carry is a Sig 229. I use a Ryan Grizzle OWB holster and a belt by RafterS.

Their colors don't match, but hey, no one can see them through my shirt. Not even the Fashion Police.

I carry a fullsize all steel 1911, and I have a good holster, and a cheap walmart belt. Never have a problem

The heaviest gun I carry is my 3" S&W 65. All steel construction, weighs about 34-36oz unloaded, if I'm not mistaken, putting it in line with a steel Commander's weight. It gets carried in a Wraith IWB holster by Seth's Gun Leather on a 1.5" Beltman belt. I've worn it as long as 16 hours with excellent comfort. With IWB the belt and holster are important, but so is getting pants that fit correctly while wearing one's gear.

My contention is that if you have a jolly good belt and holster, the weight of the gun is immaterial as far as comfort is concerned.

Depends on the size of the handgun, I'd think.

I never could find a belt or holster which made my 6.5" 629 or 5.5" Redhawk .44's feel as though their weight became "immaterial".

Even with a great holster design my 5" 1911's and the issued 4566TSW (4.25", all-steel) could be uncomfortable when it came to getting in & out of cars & various chairs throughout the day. The weight increased over the length of a 10-18hr day, as well.

There's something to be said for lighter weight metal-framed compacts and plastic guns, in general, in this regard.

Then again, a poorly designed holster can make virtually any handgun feel unwieldy, ill-balanced and uncomfortable on the hip. ;)

I've worn a 3" S&W 66 revolver for hours in a leather IWB without any problems, and my CZ 75B, at 45 oz. loaded, rides quite comfortably in either an HBE leather IWB or an M-Tac kydex IWB.

I'm skinny, at 5'11" and 150 lbs., so it doesn't take an NFL lineman to pack a heavy gun.

About 34-36 oz is the heaviest I want to go for regular carry, and <= 30oz (like a Glock 19) is really terrific.

The heaviest gun I EDC is my SIG P226 enhanced elite. It's a hell of a large gun but I manage it well with a good holster and belt.

I've got a good belt (Mitch Rosen) and good holster (TT Gunleather), but I still feel the weight of my Kobra Carry over my G30 or P2000SK.

Heaviest I have gone with is a SP101 in a Crossbreed SuperTuck and it was fine. Wearing a Wilderness instructor belt and I couldn't even tell it was on. I prefer my G33, but it weighs less than the SP.

In the winter I carry my P226 and a spare magazine concealed. Of course it takes a jacket, button up shirt, or fleece pullover to conceal but it rides just fine.

I carry in a Don Hume leather holster and either a Beltman 1.5" or 5.11 1.75" with the internal stiffener.

It is comfortable to carry, but I carry a 20lb duty belt at work, so just a gun and reload seems light as a feather to me.

My previous carry gun was a full sized steel framed 1911. My current and probably permanent carry is a Glock 17 with an attached TLR-1 light. I have used IWB holsters for each, along with at least one spare mag, leatherman multi tool, and cell phone, all held up by a 1.75" kydex reinforced Blackhawk instructor style belt. Everything conceals fine under a tshirt that I wear one size larger than usual.

I honestly am not bothered by, nor do I notice some weight on my belt. It is all very comfy.

A full size 1911 in a Comp-tac Minotaur all day with a Wilderness Instructor belt. Doesn't bother me in the least.

Sig 229 in .40 and a spare mag. No bother.

after years of that 20 pound gunbelt, an all steel full sized gun with a spare mag is almost unnoticable....

Well, I was lazy today and carried a jframe OWB with speed loader. I certainly felt naked with that rig on.

In my younger days I carried a S&W Mdl 58 (N-frame .41 Mag, 41 ounces empty) as a duty gun and plainclothes/off-duty without much trouble. Don't know that I would like it much today, though.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been carrying my full-size .357 revolver - S&W 686, 4", 40oz - in a DeSantis OWB pancake holster.... shorts and t-shirt, 5'8" and 150lbs. The muzzle end of the holster sits and inch or so into my back pocket. If out and about among lots of people, I sometimes carry a cross-chest manbag over it, although I probably don't need to.

Don't intend on this being an EDC, but it's a new gun and I wanted to see if could be done.... it can.

One big plus - it sure makes my 26 feel like a mouse gun :whistling:.
