I picked up a Remington 870 express magnum on the cheap and want to convert it to a police magnum look a like. I want ribbed walnut furniture off a PM but can not locate any. I want to do a Wilson Combat +2 tube extension. The 28" barrel is going to be replaced with a 18.5" and may even have a buddy put a night sight on it. This is my first "tacticool" shotgun. In order to do the conversion what else am I forgetting? Do I even have the right platform? Another thing is because it was a waterfowl gun, it has some imperfections in the reciever and tube. No rust or pitting but some scrapes and general wear marks. I want it to look like this with a little darker stock and the +2 tube. http://chillbebop.deviantart.com/art/Remington-870-Police-Magnum-59957407
You are looking at over $250 for the Police hardwood stock set from Remington. Call 800-243-9700 and follow the prompts to parts. Not worth it in my bood when the Remington LE Synthetic set is around $90 (if you look in the right place).
Not sure about the question about if you have the right platform as all the major customizers build on the 870 so not sure what you are asking. If you mean because it was a sporting 870 then that means nothing. There is only one 870 and your is like every one ever built except for the stocks, barrel, finish and a couple small parts. Your intent is to change all that so you are starting out with an 870 and setting it up how you want it. You are on the right track and even smarter then most since you are keeping it basic and that means more effective in a gun fight. You are ahead of the pack so stay on course.

I saw a google link to another forum and a guy was selling a set of furniture for like 90 shipped but this was in 2009. I don't necessarily need the police furniture I just really was a ribbed wood fore end and a nice stock that doesn't have the sport engravings in it.
As for the question of if I'm in the right are for platform to convert that was what I am asking. As in are there more parts than the furniture and barrel to replace. Didn't think so but wanted to be sure.
Thanks for the clean build comment. I really hate all the pistil grip, collapsible, light attachment shotguns. It is your choice so fine but not my cup of tea. I have always wanted a police magnum and never could find one for the right price so when I picked this gun up for 150 I figured what the hell. My mossberg 500A is my true love. Parkerized finish 500's are hard to find in these parts. That gun is 100% stock and will continue to be. It is surprisingly good for basic trap shooting. Out shoots my Red Label some days.
You can get used stock sets for around $60 on eBay all day long.

Blue,
While I think a syn stock better serves a serious occasion shotgun, wood can be found if you insist on having it. It all comes down to price.
Have you tried the Remington Country Store? They have a syn 870 ribbed LE forend for $26 which has the thin less aggressive rib than some others.
BTW, you are not allowed to talk about ribbed units without answering this question: Why did aippi pick up a box of ribbed condoms?

I have a synthetic 870 already. I really want to get one to look like an older model police magnum. Cost really isn't the factor so much as I want it to be exactly how I want it to be. I bid on a fore end on ebay just need a stock that isn't checkered.
Hey, Buff. I was cleaning out my wallet the other day and notice the condom I had in there expried two years ago. Shows you how often I get lucky. Who knew they even had expiration dates???????????
The last three P wood forends I got from Remington was about two months ago and they still retailed for $45. They are now $70 and I don't even know if the have any of the stocks left. Now that wood is so expensive I better stop hitting those trees with my truck.

Does the stock set you're looking for have to be new or can it have character from actual police use? I'm asking for a reason.

If new great, if not no biggie as long as there are no cracks or repairs don't to it. I can always refinish the pieces. Don't even need to be PM pieces just really want it to be a ribbed fore end and nice stock that isn't checkered.

Fair enough.
Earlier this year I picked up an 870P that was manufactured, as far as I can tell, in either '85 or '86. It was from a police department in Oklahoma and the hang tag that accompanied the gun shows that it was taken out of service in January of this year.
It's a ribbed set and no cracks. There is some engraving on the underside of the rear piece of a number although I can't tell what it's related to. Whoever had the gun wore a ring on their R ring finger because the grip has some slight marks from years of gripping.
I switched out the stocks for the syn "ute" model and the wood ones are just sitting around. No cracks and it's fairly nice walnut. I'll do both for $60 shipped if you're interested. If not no biggie.

You have a pm sir
That's a great deal. I have a nice set like blue's looking for on one of my WM's and really like the look. I paid over $100 years ago for it.

Yeah, I scooped up the furniture. I looked all over ebay and Remington country store and all I can find is synthetic. I can't wait to get this thing up and running.

Thanks for posting that. I just recently made a post asking about this myself.
How well did your stock and forearm from Numrich match?
When i bought them, I bought the unfinished versions but as far as the wood was concerned it was a direct match. Did my own stain finish on it and it's been on the gun ever since. I've used them a few times for project parts and they've always come through.
