I'm considering adding a top quality spotting scope in the 60X range to my shooting gear.

Any recommendations?

Since nobody has chimed in, let me suggest that you start here for a crash course in optics, what to look for, and why...

This looks like a nice unit at a decent price...

Keep in mind that you'd want to pair the above referenced unit with an appropriate quality tripod and mount, ideally with slow motion alt/az controls.

This set up would work well for casual astronomy too, giving nice views of star clusters, nebulae, Saturn's rings, and the moon...

I've found Orion to have excellent customer service and the retail store staff is highly knowledgeable...

just found this post doing a search, I just bought a Redfield Rampage 20-60X60 for about $220. will try it out tomorrow but seeing 223 at 200yards should be easy, not sure about passed that but 300 should easily see 308. lens seems pretty crisp.

When I researched this, about 7 years ago, I read many good things comparing Pentax favorably to more expensive brands like Leica and Swarovski. Ended up buying this one, except with the angled eyepiece.

One of the best websites I found at the time for real world comparisons was a bird watching sight, fwiw.

Here's a pic of what I got. It's held up really well and the clarity is outstanding.
