To those new to CCW, or to anyone who carries a concealed handgun, I recommend "Concealed Carry Fundamentals" by Michael Martin.

The book is very concise and to the point. A portion of the content in this book was provided by Rob Pincus (I.C.E. Training ( The many full color illustrations and situation based examples make the subject matter easy to understand. The book is laid out in such a manner that anyone reading it can easily come away with having learned, or at least refreshed themselves, on some of the many intricacies of self-defense.

Chapters include...

Developing a Personal Protection Plan
Handgun and Ammunition Basics
Shooting Fundamentals for Defensive Accuracy
The Legal Use of Force
Violent Encounters and Their Aftermath

Later chapters include some insight into holsters and gear available as well as shooting drills.

The book is soft cover and inexpensive ($20) and will remain as something you can later return to for reference. Would also serve as an excellent gift to a fellow CCW permit holder. :)

I have this book in my library and do go back to it from time to time. I would also recommend the StressFire Series by Massad Ayoob. Lots of real world information from someone that knows what he is talking about.

I'd also recommend anything Mas has written.

(For ANYONE has a gun for defensive use or is even just thinking about getting one.)
