I have a Glock 17, and I'm pleased with it as a CC Weapon. But to feed my gun habit, can anybody suggest a better EDC, so I have an excuse to buy another Glock? Please tell me why you recommend it for CCW.

I am very fond of the Glock 26. It is appreciably smaller than the G17 and more than one guy herer has suggested that they shoot it as well or better than bigger Glocks.

G26. It's a natural companion to the 17.

I too am a fan of the subcompact frame. Whichever caliber you choose, the 26/27/33 is awesome for concealed carry. Add a mag base plate from Concealable Control or whoever they are and a set of night sights and you're in business. I have a 27 with those baseplates and a set of green/yellow Meprolights from Lone Wolf. Very happy with that gun.

The G26 & G19 are both great carry guns in the 9mm format and I have both but my everyday carry is a G30.
It is what I feel comfortable with and I dress around it even in this blazing hot spring/summer we are having so far.
"A" style T-shirt, open or closed button up shirt and shorts with an OWB is what I am comfortable with and I can usually make it work.
What is best for you may depend on age, body shape, flexibility, dress style and other situations.
Good Luck!

No question, if it has to be a Glock it would be the 26. Incredibly accurate and easy to shoot.

I concur the G23 is a ton of firepower in a little package...the 27 would be slighty more concealable, but god I can make my G23 disappear w/my CBST holster.

I have a G17, G19, G26, and G36. I carry the G36 as it conceals the best. With a GOOD holster, I can conceal the G19 almost as well. I would prefer to carry the G19 because of greater firepower.
I can't conceal the G17 easily due to the big grip which prints.

My suggestion would be either a G19 or G36. Almost the same size with a Peace +0 extention on the G36 mag. I carry either one OWB under a t-shirt with no problem. They both give you a little more grip than the G26/27 size guns. That could be important if you have bigger hands.

You need an excuse for an EDC that's smaller, more compact, and delivers the same or more power than your G-17?

You've come to the right place for the answer, I'm sure.

Glock 19 or 26 will suit you well. I have both and carry the 19 in fall and winter and the 26 in summer months as it is a bit easier to conceal under loose summer clothing.

My wife says I'm like a girl when we go out because I take time to chose a carry gun. I switch between a 26, 36, 30, 19, 38, 34 and sometimes my 27.

If I only had a 17, I would chose a 26. Seems like a natural choice. Noticeably smaller and still shoots great!

I think that the Glock 23/19/32 frame size is a perfect combination of size and firepower.

I carry a Glock 23. Have carried a 27 and a 35 as well, but the mid-size frame works best for me.

G26. I shoot it better than my G17. I can make it bigger with mag extensions or G19 or G17 mags or I can use GAP floor plates for a better grip. It is the most versatile pistol Glock makes.

For me, I carry a glock30 in a comp-tac Minotaur IWB. Absolutely love it. I have two 30's now. I am waiting for a G26 gen4 to come in. I am doing the GSSF discount deal, so I have to wait for a blue label to come in. Planning to get the crossbreed fir carry.

G26

Utterly reliable, dead-on tack driving accurate, very easy to shoot and control even during rapid fire, and I like the beveled slide.

It just looks more CCW-ish compared to the squared slides on the bigger Glocks.

Depends on how I feel at the time...Subcompacts rule the Southern Summer Heat...I probably carry my G26 the most b/c I have the option of using my +2 Glock OEMs 12+1 is HARD to snuff at in that small of a package! But I have the option of a G27 with +2 OEMs (actually only +1 in .40S&W) so that's 10+1 in .40 cal!! Very concealable firepower either way.....I also have mags w/ GAP Plates for those days u just want a little extra concealability....

I carry my G22 or G27 depending on the season. Being 6 ft. and a very slime 260 lbs. :winkie: I can get by concealing my G22 almost any time I want. A loose shirt and my Galco Fletch Holster works great for me. However the G27 conceals really really well. Inside the waist band, outside the waist band, ankle holster all work for my G27. And once I added Pearce +1 mag. extensions to my mags. I can shoot it pretty good, almost as good as I shoot my G22. I have a cheap Fobus Holster that works great with both of them beleive it or not.

Sounds to me you need a G19 AND a G26 to go along with your G17, that'll make one heck of a trio. Nothing at all wrong with the 9mm, my next pistol is going to be a G19!

I carry my G29 every day. I think it is the best Glock, and the perfect balance of size, power, weight, and capacity. There's nothing like 10mm.

However, if you feel 10mm is not your thing, I would go with one of these:

-G33 (great power, small, light, ammo is expensive and harder to find)
-G30 (.45ACP, like the G29, good balance of capacity and size, heavier than G33/26)
-G26 (9mm prices, availability, options, light, small, good capacity, low recoil, lowest power option)

Since you have a 9mm Glock already, the G26 would likely be the way to go. That gun is super accurate, and recoil is nothing. If you want the same gun with more power, step up to the G33 (G27 w/ G33 barrel gives you choice of .40S&W or .357SIG). If you want big holes, in what I think is the perfect size for a CCW, go with the G30. If you want that "perfect size" and one gun to do it all, get the G29 and a reloading setup, and you'll never look back.

All of the Glocks are good for CCW, save maybe the longslide ones. They have a very comforting tendency to go bang when you pull the trigger.

That said, after seven years of carrying a G19 for CCW, I now carry a G17 for the same purpose. YMMV.

Another vote for the G36: The only "slimline" frame they make.
It's 5% thinner than a G19 (28.5 vs. 30mm), and that to me is the most important dimension for CCW. I CC mine IWB in a Comp-Tac MTAC all day - and have every day for the past three years.

I have both a G19 and G26. It depends on where I need to carry as to which gun I bring with me. I have a Milt Sparks small-of-back holster that fits both G19 and G26.

If you have a G17, then try a G19. It does everything the G17 will do, but is just a little easier to carry.

There's nothing wrong w/a G26, but you may find that due to its dimensions, it may not be similar enough to the attributes you appreciate about the G17 that you will like or be comfortable with it.

G33 with G32 mag and A&G grip sleeve for me.

Until I get my 1911 back.

I'll stick to subcompacts from glock, because I can always put in a bigger mag and make the grip midsize or fullsize, cant shrink the bigger guns when need be.

Used to carry a G30, was like a brick, switching to the 3" 1911 went from "theres a gun on my hip, theres a gun on my hip, theres a heavy gun on my hip" to "hey i feel like theres nothing extra on my person"

It all depends upon several factors...

What body type do you have? Tall, thin, short, fat? What could you easily conceal upon your body?

What season is it? What can you carry, comfortably without care about the environment?

What do you shoot best?

Is it a question of weight or printing in your clothes?

I'm a short, old geezer, 5'6", 160lbs (headed for 136), and have "small" hands. My choices are centered around .45acp- either Glock 21/21SF, and/or Glock 30/30SF. These pistols just happen to fit me, better than the 1911s I used to "wear." I usually carry IWB, ankle holster, double shoulder holster, or combination thereof... (Things in the city are getting more dangerous by day...)

My jackets are one to two sizes too large, though the sleeves are "just right." Slacks and shorts are size 38, rather than my current 36, if using IWB. Otherwise, 36 for slacks and shorts... Sometimes I use a XL sport type vest, and a dual horizontal shoulder holster from West Woods Landing, for either two G21s or two G30s... Depends upon whether I feel I can carry the weight...

Don't know if this helps, but HOW you wear your weapons also matters... Good posture, ease of movement, wearing your gear as if it isn't there- these are important...

I knew an LEO that carried two 1911s in cross-draw rigs. He was so used to having them on, NOBODY even noticed they were there- for he wore them as casually as you'd wear a watch, or wear your glasses... However, I'd seen him move, and he was chained lightning... And, he didn't miss what he aimed at...

Be as comfortable with what you wear, and be as competent as if your life depended upon it- for it does...

OA, out...

I tried to CCW a full size all-steel 1911 for a while, but it kept pulling my pants down. Leaning more towards lighter guns now - Kahr, FN 5.7, Glock and HK P7.

I still like the 1911 as an all-around pistol.

Plenty of lightweight 1911's that are similar in weight, you've just gotta go for the 3-4" barrel models.

While the g26 is a great gun, if you stack up a G19 and a G26, you will see the G19 isn't that much bigger, but has 50% more rounds. Since many people put a pinky extension on the g26 for a better grip, this puts you back at the same size as a g19.

The g23 (.40s&w) and g32 (.357sig) are the same size as the g19 if you like hotter rounds than 9mm.

But you cant easily pop a subcompact mag into your G19 and have it be an ankle gun, or disappear when clothing or other issues make a G19 harder to conceal.

Those of us with the subcompacts can easily have the midsize mags with the A&G grip sleeve.

A glock 26 with a pinky extension is smaller than a G19. In fact a G26 with a +2 round extension is still smaller than a G19. I have a photo of a g26 with +2 extension stacked on a G19 stacked on a G34. You can see the difference.

Look at the grip, this is where the printing issues show. He said the G19 was the _same_ as a G26 with pinky extension. Not so. And not so with a +2.

There is no perfect. However, if I could only have one gun it would be a G19. It is definitely my most carried.

RE: G19 vs G26 with extension...I have both. I've had the G26 since 2005 and the G19 since 2009. I have carried both extensively.

The G26 with a pinky extension or even a +2 extension is still easier to carry/conceal than the G19. Compare the backstrap length and you will see why...especially for the +0 extension

A glock 26 with a pinky extension is smaller than a G19.

I have a 26 but like the traditional 45acp caliber better, so I carry a 30sf. For me, appendix carry works best.......I like the Dale Fricke Archangel kydex holster.......for an untucked shirt and a Galco "Ultimate Second Amendment" if I need a tucked shirt. For a change of pace, I sometimes pocket carry either a Smith 642 or Ruger LCR.

Huge fan of them to. Add J Smith .38s and you have quite a pair.

And if you shoot IDPA, use that sub-compact Glock in the local matches. Skip the photo-vest stuff they wear and just wear what you do everyday with your CCW Glock. That way you know exactly how your carry will work on the street.

I think the mid size Glock is the best CCW gun. It the perfect size to conceal without being to small. The G19, G23 or G32 depending on your preference in caliber. With the proper holster I can carry this Glock with gymn shorts and a tee shirt.

I started with a 26, liked it so got a 19. I still carry both occasionally. (not usually together.) Now my EDC is a 21sf in an MTAC. It disappears under s golf or polo shirt!! I DO wear a "wife beater" tank under for comfort. In winter, my normal mode of dress includes a leather vest, so that's my cover garment.
With a proper gun belt there is no weight problem with the 21sf.

I use to go down town to the Federal Building in Columbus every once in a while. I must admit, it is a blast to watch the expressions of the guys and girls working the security counter when I grab three baskets and start to de-Arm before going through the scanner. Back then I would carry an ASP 21" baton as well as all the crap in the photo above. The guards are all like, WTF does this guy do for a living...?

I carry a Glock 27. The 26 or 33 will do fine too. It really depends on which you like most or dislike least. I like the 40 S&W. Some have problems with the snappiness.

Sometimes here in VT I get lazy and just put it in a Bianchi No. 4 holster and go OC. Except when I go across the street to the Post Office. No guns allowed there so I leave it at home.

For me I like the G30sf for EDC. Other then that I CC 38 spec. when the G30 will not work.

After carrying the G30 for a couple of years I have switched to a G36 as my EDC. I also regularly carry a Ruger SP101 in .357 mag and rarely a S&W 642 .38 spcl +p when the situation requires.

I just ordered a G26,from Buds for $518 shipped. Not sure which Gen it is though.

Welcome to GT!

That's the gen 3 I believe. It's an excellent carry pistol. Shoot the heck out of it!

I love my 1989 G17. I got the 3rd gen frame recently for it. It loves the +p+ 115gr WW JHPs. It chronographed at 1400 FPS.

Angry Fist, The folders, one each, go into my front pockets, the Glock and 2 magazines ride in IWB holster and double mag pouch. The other two magazines go into the back pockets or into a cargo pocket depending on what I'm wearing. The Icom FD Radio hangs from one of my many pockets. The radio often changes depending on what is happening, and some times it gets tossed into the truck seat beside me, or onto the dash...

The best weapon of all of those was the ASP baton. I use to tuck that thing into the change pocket that is in the right front pocket of your jeans. It would stand up out of the pocket several inches but my shirt would hide it. I am tell'n ya, whip that thing out of your pocket and the whole room stops moving when it snaps open. It is like jacking the slide on a pump shotgun.

Use the "Command" voice along with the baton snapping open... instant attention getter. :wow:

However, my new dress code is cargo shorts & polo shirts... so the baton stays at home.
