Ok - I changed the grips from Pachmeyer wrap arounds to these :)

No, no more online grief for having the Pachmeyers :)

Well for what it's worth, I really like Pachy's. I actually think they look good. Regardless of how they look, they are the best feeling grip for me. I'm thinking of picking up a TRP and will put some on it, even though it has grip checkering. I know.....the horror.....the horror.

Way better but still not wood.:tongueout: Take this with a grain of salt from an old carpenter. Nice.

Yeah, but they saved more than one hand with their steel inserts.

Well, they are my fav. I will reserve decision on these until the next raneg trip. I did try them over a year ago, but went back to the pachmeyers afterwards. I bought another set today to try again...

The gun came with wooden grips, and I sorta liked them. But that color wood doesn't look right on the silver colored finish

What a let-down.

We were the only two guys here with Springfield Custom rollmarks and Pachmayrs.

Real 1911s wear ugly rubber grips.

Those are just plain Hogue panels...

The Hogues are thinner than the Pachmeyers... Im still getting used to it. The grip is almost TOO thin for me now :)

But, I'll take it to the range and shoot them with the new ones once and then decide...

I did pay extra for the 25 LPI hand checkering :) - nice to see it

I love these grips for shooting. For carry without an undershirt they are pretty miserable. I may toss some Busse g10s on there sooner or later.

I just switched my grips to a set of Colt wrap around grips. I am actually still attempting to locate some of the old Colt wrap around that had the pebble texture. I had a Colt with them a long time ago and really liked them.

Not the only two. I use them. Back when our department considered the pachmeyers the better choice for the steel panels inside (blowout protection for unsupported chambers), I put them on, and they're still on. They're not fancy, but they work fine. The wrap-around front adds extra to the trip, whereas I much prefer a plain or checkered front, but they still work fine.

I knew others who used soft hogue grips, and I never liked them. I never liked the finger groove wrap-arounds, either. We ended up with the Sig P220's and a number of guys did use the hogue wrap-arounds. The hogues were too soft, and too grippy. They also retained too much finger crud.

The newer hogues in aluminum or the G10 are great.

Hey back in the 70s and 80s my 1974 Colt Gov. I carried wore Pachmayr grips with a flat, rubber coated Pachmayr MSH. It is semi retired these days after over 40K rounds, and yes, still with the collet bushing. By the way, the sights, trigger and other mods were done in 1975.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e193/dakota1911/1911A170_r.jpg

On pebble grips. They are around. I have seen them at gunshows for not that much. Here on an early 90s Commander which no longer wears them.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e193/dakota1911/comm1r.jpg

Now I think I am like a lot of my fellow shooters that have pretty grips on a pistol, but put something like the wrap arounds on it when I go out and put a few hundred rounds through it on a nice afternoon. I know these burl grips come off my 1996 GCNM when I shoot it and go back on after cleaning the guy when I come back from the range.

Pachmayr wrap arounds for the win. They are the most comfortable grips ever. I'm not sure I'd use them if my 1911 had front checkering, though. Then again, with my baby soft hands, I probably would.

You can keep your olive drab, double diamond, horny-toads...

You actually have grips on the weapon that are only on the weapon when it's not in use?

I've never heard of anyone removing the grips in order to fire the weapon. What's the point in having them (setting aside the issue of slick, fancy grips that don't grip)?

Perhaps it's an issue of focus; to me a weapon is bought and owned to shoot. It's a tool, it's a practical, lethal weapon. I suppose if one buys a firearm to show it off, it makes sense. I have a hard time envisioning making the weapon pretty to sit in the safe, then making it practical to go shoot.

It's not my gun. The picture was taken by a PWS armorer. The gun is a Springfield Pro that was purchased by the gov't for the MEUSOC guys.

They cut the FCS, changed the sights, mainspring housing and grips.

Then it appears they used it as a small anchor in salt water.:usmc:

I think the Pachmayr grips look and feel great. Function over form. They are 10 times better than Hogue finger grooves and look awesome on a GI or Milspec gun.

I mean, what's more bad ass than a MEU SOC with Pachmayr grips?

I suppose I can't complain too much about rubber wraparound grips. This Delta Elite was a lot cheaper for me thanks to rubber wraparound grips and idiotic previous owner.

I like the feel of the wrap around grips.
However, I have a tip for all of you that also like the wrap arounds.
I take a new razor and cut the top 7 or 8 lines out of the front of the wrap around to give my finger under the trigger guard a little more room to get up close to the trigger guard and also to make it feel not so wide at that point.
It cuts just fine and if you are careful in following the lines you can't even tell it didn't come that way.
Feels much better after that.
