If you're on the fence, buy one. This is probably the most fun to shoot gun that I've ever owned. I had some FTEs the first couple of times I shot it, but they were with some weak loads. I haven't had the first issue with quality ammo. As you can hear in the video, the muzzle blast caught my girlfriend by surprise.

For those interested in more info on the Coonan 357,
The Sept American Handgunner gun-rag as a great article about it.

Yeah, they're very cool pistols for sure.

I love mine. :)

I bought two of the new Classics and they LOVE the hotloads - the hotter the better! Mine were lightly "gritty feeling" for lack of better terminology, for the first few hundred rounds, but have smoothed out quite nicely. Accuracy also fell into a sweet spot after the break in. Glad you like yours too!

Our own David Cote is a dealer for Coonan as well. If you want one, give him a call (or PM)!

Its definitely one of the coolest handguns on the market.

While I have no plans on adding another, I'm glad they're back in production.

That thing looks so bad ass I want one so bad its very high on my bucket list. I was wondering do they come slandered with the 38special conversion or is that a extra?

Not really new, just a restart of an old pistol. Here's my early 90's Coonan.

All you have to do to shoot .38 is swap out the recoil spring (.357 and .38 springs come with the gun).

I'd forgotten noticing the dust cover on your Coonan when we were up there last.

Now I know where Les got the Monolith idea from.

No doubt, Mark.

Coonans have always had a full length dust cover. They aren't 1911s, but close. There's a different trigger system and no barrel link. The frame is also bigger and beefier to handle the 357mag round.

Thats sweet I thought I read some where you had to change the barrel out because of feed angle. Since the 38special cart is a little shorter then the 357mag cart.

I plan to get one. Probably this year some time.

That recoil looks a little lively. I wonder what the group looked like.

Recoil is snappy, but I don't find it too hard to control. The gun weighs nearly 45ozs unloaded.

I can't remember, but I'm sure that group was far from my best. The recoil actually isn't too bad. To me it has less recoil less than my friend's Colt Commander XSE.

Cool gun!

Man I love all the baffle strikes (not yours, I know...) But there are some seriously bad shooters out there. At my indoor range last week I saw a female shooting the floor in floor of her 15 yard target. The laser dot painted the center of the target (a little wobbly, but it was on target) right up until she started to yank the trigger. Then, neuromuscular disaster...

Thanks!

I've seen quite a few of those happen. That range rents full auto as well, so the first time someone lets loose with an MP5 or the like the second half of the mag is usually WAY off target. Broken target carriers, baffle strikes, shooting the target the next lane over, shooting the cables, I've seen it all there. When that happens I usually pack up my things and get out of there.

Well, its not really a 1911. There are some differences in function and appearance.
