I was just wondering if I can put a 17L/24 slide onto my 17 gen4 frame? And if so will there be a large gap between the dust cover and the frame or will it fit basically flush like the gen 3's?

Avoid the temptation. It would have a large gap. You may also have an issue with trigger engagement.
