View Full Version : Next 1911
I purchased a Smith and Wesson 1911 a year ago and the bug has bit me, so whats the next 1911 to purchase? I was looking at the Dan Wesson Valor, possibly a Springer TRP? Any others I should look at or which would be a better purchase? Thanks.

I would go with the Valor over the TRP.
Definately the Valor. No MIM.
I'm not a fan of the 20lpi checkering on the TRP.

At the time, I was trying to make the same decision the OP is and that's exactly one of the reasons I chose the Valor over the TRP.

I have both. I really like my TRP but my Valor is my baby. I say Valor.
Good luck!!!!

Tough call. I LOVE my TRP, but I want a Valor really bad, especially after seeing firsthand, the quality of the DW CCO. I like the fact that the Valor has a single side safety and no FCS, whereas the TRP has FCS and an ambi. As for the black models, the Valor has a better finish than the AK TRP IMO. And the Valor has a higher cut under the trigger guard. Damn! I just talked myself into a Valor.

They always did say asians have soft hands!! Hell, even my back scratcher is 20 LPI!!!

Its a tough call. The TRP has more standard features, such as an ambi safety and magwell. However, the Valor certainly has cleaner looks.
Have you looked at the new Ithaca?
Its another great option in the same price range.

I love my TRP, but if I had to do it over I would likely go Valor for the first of the two. I like that Doublestar too in the price range, but dont know anyone with one to shoot first. You cant go wrong, and even if I had a Valor first I would still be buying a TRP at some point.

The Ithaca feels very nice in my hands. My dealer has one that he will make me a good deal on ($1400). I just need to get the funds. Donations will be accepted.

James, like I said, I'd put the Ithaca at the top of your list. You'll really like the way it shoots.

That is a good looking gun Brian. How does it shoot? And compared to the TRP and Valor, how would you rate them 1 through 3?

I agree. I see a Valor in my future someday. I do like my TRP a great deal though. Now, for some gratuitous pics. :)

I want a Model SW1911Sc E-Series™, Round Butt, Scandium Frame and a Ruger SR1911, but neither are available in this area.

I prefer the Valor over the TRP.

Tough question, Joe. They're all very good and shoot about equal for me.
I give the Valor and Ithaca a big edge on looks alone though. The TRP has more standard features.
trp. best all around 1911 i have ever shot. the checkering does not bother me, it is quite nice. and the rail (if you can get the operator version) has so much utility!

Here's mine. I was a little upset getting it new, and pre-scratched, but I'll get that fixed ... Hopefully from SW. The gun feels amazing in my hand! Like it was made for it. I got mine to carry so it will get used anyway, The gun feels small, and light! 232711
