Picked this up yesterday. Put 200 Federal 230 grain and 50 230 grain Speer Gold Dots through it at the range today. It will replace my Sig 229 as my daily carry once it is broken in and we get well acquainted with each other.
Calling the Springfield Custom Shop Monday to get a order worked up for 25 LPI checkering on the front strap and to polish the feed ramp/throat, might as well throw in a deburr too.

That's a nice pistol, congrats. I had one that I still kind of regret selling.

Thanks guys. Anyone had a front strap checkered by the Springfield shop? How'd they do vs. some of the other work you've seen?

What are you having done?

Bobtail, flush crown barrel, Snake skin the front strap to match the MSH, having the frame re-coated in a slightly glossy black to match the slide to get rid of the flat dull look, and having a 10-8 trigger fit, re-coated black, and installed.

I really really like these models. I foolishly sold mine when I was upgrading to semi custom builds. It is the one of the the two guns I have sold that I have regretted.

Here is the worklist:

25 LPI checkering of the front strap
Polish feed ramp and throat barrel
Refinish to Armory Kote on the entire pistol
Lower and flare ejection port (including extended ejector)

8-10 weeks, mostly due to the checkering.

I forgot to ask them about crowning the barrel, I'll prob look at that as well.

 I was thinking about a black trigger to make it all black after adding the VZ Frag ETCs. Then I figured as many times as that trigger will get pulled it's not going to stay black for long anyway.

Post up pics of the bobtail when you get it back. I waffled on that before deciding to pass for now. The one I have seen looked great.

What is his turn-around time looking like right now?

It's back!

After just shy of 8 weeks I got the Champion Operator back.

- FS checkered to 25 LPI
- throated and polished the feed ramp
- crowned the barrel
- replaced the MSH with non-ILS
- refinished the entire gun in Armory Kote

Good looking gun! What kind of grips are those? If you don't mind me asking, how much was it for everything? I have a LW Champion Operator and currently run Pachmeyer wrap around grips on it. I would like to have the front strap checkered, and have the feed ramp polished.

Thanks! The grips are VZ ETC Frags. You can price the work out on Springfields site, they have a price list.
