Would any of you here volunteer to let one the crews from cops ride around with you for a couple of shifts? Just kinda seems like it would grate my nerves a little bit.

What say you?

Me personally no, but I know some guys who for sure would.

The guys I worked with at my last department used to say it would be awesome. One thing is for sure, they'd have gotten some GREAT footage.

Yeah, I would do it if they came around my area. I don't mind ride-alongs as long as I have a heads up....I have in car cameras in most of the vehicles I work in. No biggie if a camera is around.

The show Cops would be ok....I would be cautious or apprehensive if it was a new show I had not seen yet. Naperville, Illinois had some police woman show that just made them look like a bunch of goofs.

I get really irritated when the cops, after they have the scum cuffed and in the cruiser, try to rehabilitate him. On and on. Guess they have to do that on TV. Just take the scum to jail!
Only time I enjoy that show is when a puppy takes the scum down and tastes him. I almost have an orgasm!

I have to agree on the backseat rehabilitations/interrogations that we seem to see after every arrest on "Cops". Officer, why do you think he ran from you or lied to you? Because he didn't want to go to jail!

It's been said before in these types of threads that those backseat confessionals are at the insistence of the cops crew.

If something like this has been posted before, my apologies to all of you. I am on a cell phone so searching old articles is a little to much work.

I think that is the other thing that would drive me nuts, all the "scripted" or directed stuff they would want you to do. I dunno, maybe I just hate the thought of being on tv.

No way. I can't stand anyone in my car-reserve, civ. ride along, explorer. If I got paid, residuals and health insurance from the screen actors guild then probly.

Yeah, I hear gay porn is not the way to break into the acting field, so maybe COPS would work out better for you.

Yeah, I'm watching the other night and a cop says to this drugged out woman, "why don't you try getting high on life." I about spit out my coke in the middle of the waffle house. I've never said that to a subject in my life, and can't imagine why I ever would.

I'm pretty sure that MANY of the lines on "Cops" are scripted (or at least strongly suggested). Also, the only clips that make it on the show are agreed upon by the participating agency. So blame the agency too when you see those really stupid ones. ;)

I had them with me twice. I don't "care" for riders, but the Sgt wanted them out of the way, and I work a real slow zone.

They are wiser then the average ride-a-long. They don't ask stupid questions, and they only make as much small talk as YOU want. They buy you dinner! They only do the "interview" if/when they think they have good video. Then they go back and recreate the whole "My dad was a cop...." thing. They do ask you to talk a lot more "for the viewers", if you have a good case. IE, they ask you to talk to the suspect, the witnesses, etc and verbalize what you're doing so the "folks at home" can put the pieces together and understand what's going on.
