Where is a good place to get the Military MREs? I am looking for a case or so for hurricane season.

If the Military ones aren't available, what is the best substitute?

You can often find them at gun shows - which allows you to check the expiration dates before you buy. Or you can get them from cheapertthandirt.com
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ItemListing.aspx?catid=5339

CTD also sells the side dishes and heaters as separate items which can be handy to provide some variety. We're goin to buy some when we get back to Florida - just in case...

Avoid the overpriced, out of date ones from the gun shows.

Get em by the case direct from SoPakCo in South Carolina.

+1 for ReadyMeal. Fast and you won't find a better price for fresh stuff.

For military ones I'd recommend MRE Depot http://www.mredepot.com/servlet/the-270/MRE-Military-USGI-Meal/Detail

Then again, I'm not sure what I'm going to do now with dozens of books of matches :dunno: (they also seem to be quite a bit more expensive than when I picked up some - guess that's pretty much a given though now-a-days!)

I have been out way too long, are you allowed to re-sell them to civilians?

I may get them for free by the case every Annual Training... I may have taken two cases this last one...

Gun shows, mil surp shops(they tend to have the clear packaged civvy ones), or flea markets(could be stolen...)

Better hope your not on a Low Sodium diet restriction. Most of this stuff has over 1000 mg of sodium per meal in it. Current recommendation is 2000 mg day with no more than 500 mg per meal.

For short term you can get away with this stuff but you better have a lot of water to flush out your system, long term you can expect your Blood Pressure to start spiking in the Pray-for-a-Nose-Bleed territory after prolonged use. YMMV

I just got another case direct from A-pack, am updating some aging military issue stuff. I had already picked up a case of Sopako from a outdoor supplier (they got too pricey)

Yes they do. they also work out daily, watch their weight, etc..

IMHO, a WHOLE LOT of people with health problems that are caused by bad diet and bad lifestyle are going to get weeded out pretty quick in a real emergency, by either losing the weight, changing lifestyle, or dropping over dead.

Simple as that.

Rule number 1... Cardio.

It was kind of a rhetorical question.:whistling:

As for the rest, you are correct.

If you have an iPhone there is an app to see what's in them before you open it. It works on military and civilian MREs

Most don't eat MREs constantly for weeks on end. When in base camps they usually have real meals, no?
