I'm looking to build a 10.5" AR. Would it brasher to buy a lower Bd after getting stamp build one or just buy a factory SBR from DD?

Just depends on what you want. If you build it you will need to have the lower engraved with your information, if you buy it complete you won't.

Huh?

I say build it.

A factory one will actually work.

10" guns have issues anyways, so be warned.

AWWWWW... SCHNAPPS!!!1!

I almost threw in my 2 cents about a 10.5 upper, but I assume he would run a KX3 booster?

If we're talking about assembling a lower and topping it with a factory SBR upper (I think we are) then there's no reason 2 competent hands can't assemble quality components and have a well functioning rifle.

I don't think Noveske has access to any superior roll pin driving technology that I don't, and that's basically all there is to "building," besides staking the castle nut.

I'm either gonna buy a DD mk18 upper or just buy a factory complete rifle from them. Didn't know if buying a factory complete SBR would be less nfa hassle

I build them, but I don't mind tinkering with stuff, and own a full selection of buffers, carriers, springs, and drill bits.

I would highly suggest buying your first one in the configuration you want, then if you want another upper, try your hand at it.

Buying a factory complete rifle is a bit better because there is no engraving necessary (Makes resale easier), otherwise the paperwork is essentially the same depending on what route you take.

I say build it. I have never built a sbr, but i did build a middy 16 in and it runs great. look at the directions on ar15.com and you will do fine. Thats all i had to go by, and i had no idea how to do it. if i can do it.....anybody can. Feels great to shoot and own a gun that you built your self

I don't mind building ARs, they are simple, my question I guess was more related to the NFA process. I like the idea of not have to worry about engraving, but on the other hand, it would be A LOT cheaper to jut engrave my current lower and buy a second upper

Forgive my ignorance, buy where do they sell the factory SBR? I've seen a few for over $1800, and that seems off....

BCM (at least when they are taking orders)

Do they sell the Daniel Defense Mk 18 SBR? That's the one and only I want. Or noveske. No BCM

If you are going 10" then I suggest to just buy one such as a Noveske already done so that it is made to the exact tolerances and you don't have to worry about it being finicky.

Would just buying the completed upper be problematic? If so, then how?

Nope, would run good.

Just have to complete paperwork on the lower, and properly engrave it and do a form 1 if it is not a factory SBR on a form 4.

BTW, this is what I would buy first time out:

Build: Put it all together. ALL of it.

Assemble: Any moron can push two pins together. Not the same thing.

Very good advice,.......playing with gas port size can be a major PITA.

I say build it yourself. Send your current lower off for engraving and just do the upper for now. I sent mine off recently to Ident Marking Services, they did a great job.

Rainier Arms has a 10.5 Noveske barrel with the gas block already pinned.

I'll probably end up doing the same thing eventually. I just built a 5" 9mm and ordered an AAC TiRant for it so my gun funds are completely depleted for a while, but a 10.5" or 12.5" upper for it and a AAC M4-2000 are next on my list.

I agree with you, but I think you completely missed the OP's intent.

I don't know. I might know a few morons who couldn't understand push 2 pins in.

I bought two factory LMT 10.5 guns personally. Didn't feel like engraving and I knew their 10.5's run....

I'm then building a MK18 MOD1 clone...
