I picked up a new Springfield Armory MC Operator. I haven't fired it yet but look forward to it this weekend. I usually clean and relubricate new firearms but wonder if I should fire this without doing so to break it in. The slide to frame is tighter than I thought it would be. The finish is great, and I am impressed. Fingers crossed, it shoots as good s it looks. Wish me luck.

P.S.- Pics will be up tomorrow. I can't figure out how to attach them here from my iPad. :dunno:

Unsure if it's a big deal, but would you recommend a cleaning prior to shooting it for the first time?

Here's a few pics:

You can, if you want. It won't hurt it.

I generally always clean my guns prior to the first outing.

When I got my Baer more or less everyone told me to just keep lubing it till I get about 500 rounds though it before I brake it down.

Going to see how that goes this weekend.

Love them Operators:

I never clean or lube guns until after I see how they will run dry.

Mine has been a joy to shoot. I have had mine since Feb 07. The "born on date" of mine is October 2006. If you call Springfield and give them the serial number, they will tell you when it was made.

Sweet! I have a bunch of the 47D's and some ETM's.

I am toying with installing a flat trigger in the MC. I used to dislike them, but I tried a Sig Scorpion with one installed. It felt very good to me and am now contemplating one myself. A 10-8 Performance flat trigger would be a front runner. Opinions?

i had one, loved it.

target inset was three rounds fired at 7yds as fast as i could pull the trigger in an idpa match. an extended layoff caused us to part ways. was all set to get with the current owner and get it back into the fold then i ran across this:

http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/7541/trp7ydbig.jpg

still, the mc operator holds a special place of high regard.

i just snagged one of those, too! haven't fired it yet; personal life is kicking my ass!

the pachmeyer(sp?)grips are interesting to me. i saw some on the classified but i'm sure now they will get gotten but the price was good for trying out parts.

i also picked up a flat trigger by 10-8.

I'm leaning toward a flat trigger for my MC Operator. I just checked 10-8 Performance, and they have a Long Flat Trigger. I have average sized hands so I figure that a Medium Flat Trigger would be a better fit. What choices are out there for a Medium?

Infinity ITS, but it's not shorter. it's 2.2" overall, which is the same length as the other flat triggers.

if you can shoot a long curved trigger, then the long flat is the same. it may actually feel shorter too.

here's the 10-8

here's the Infinity trigger with a short flat.
http://photosbydon.smugmug.com/photos/1004764513_tg7UX-L.jpg

the Infinity base is $48 and the insert is $20

you can always get the normal flat trigger and file it down.

I like the look of that Scorpion's flat trigger. I shot it well, and it felt good. I am thinking of blacking out the trigger, bushing and barrel for a complete OD/Black MC.

Doesn't Quack own the rights to the term 'flat trigger'? I hope he's getting residual checks from SIG for using HIS flat triggers.

I finally had the chance to put in a quality range session with my MC Operator. I took 550 rounds to the range and a bunch of Wilson Magazines. The ammo breakdown is as follows:

200 Winchester USA FMJ
100 Winchester WinClean Flat Point
100 Winchester Ranger SXT +P
100 Federal American Eagle FMJ
30 Federal HST
20 Remington Golden Sabre

All ammo fired was 230 grain. I have a few pics and a range report if anyone is interested.

denn1911

I started the session with applying some Tetra Lube to the barrel and rails. As recommended for the initial break in, I lubed the pistol every 50-75 rounds. I began with an accuracy test, and it didn't disappoint. It was almost boringly accurate as I approached the 25 yard line. I wanted to shoot some steel at the 50 for the fun of it, but it got too late. I'll look forward to that another day.

I proceeded to run some defensive drills from touching distance out to the 12 yard line. Although it was solid in my hand, I think that I will swap out the pachmayr wrap around rubber grip grip panels...Larry Davidson perhaps. I pushed myself with the use of a timer, and combat accuracy was more than adequate. I was very happy with the results. I used one hand and two hand holds, both dominant and non-dominant. Toward the end of my two hour session, I had 2 fail to feeds back to back with a one hand non-dominant hold. I'll blame it on me. Other than those, it ran flawless.

I love the fit, finish and function of this Springfield 1911. It is my first Springfield, and I see more of them in my future. Last year, I sold my Wilson Combat CQB Elite. Honestly, this Springer feels almost as good to me. The Wilson had a better trigger. My future plans for this is to send it back to the SA Custom Shop for a trigger job and front strap checkering.

Enough babbling on my part. Here are some pics:
