Hey all
I recently got a Regent (IAC) GI 1911 through Buds. I was under the impression the IAC imported were a series 80 with a series 70 slide, but mine appears to be series 70 frame and slide. Please LMK if I am right, I don't claim to be an expert so I may be wrong.

I picked up the Regent 1911 GI at buds gun shop, I really wanted a Springfield but they weren't availible (big surprise), so I did some research, I wanted a series 70 if possible, I don't like the RI's simply because the Imported from Phillipenese on the dust cover bothers me, I know that they are perfectly fine 1911's, just can't get past that god awful stamp, so my options were slim. I decided on the IAC Regent based on what I have about them here on GT, and a few other forums.

The Regent 1911 I got is super tight, so tight I was worried it may not function properly. All the parts and peices worked fine but the trigger was a little heavy so I cleaned up the sear, dissconector, and hammer useing a Brownelles hammer slot file and trigger rail file. I did slightly adjust the sear and hammer fit, but really just smoothed everything out. I also used the files on the frame smoothing out the hammer slot and trigger rails. Now the trigger is a Crisp 4lbs pull, no overtravel, just snaps like a glass rod. It is so good I didn't use the med lenght solid adjustable trigger I bought and had intended on installing. I had some old Cocobolo full checkered grips laying around so I put those on, had a small problem getting the origional grips off cause the bushing wasnt loctited in, but that was an easy fix. There are casting lines on the parts, but hey its under $500, everytime I pull the trigger it goes bang, what more can you ask for.

The Regent has a decent finish, nothing special, it does have a slight Parkerized feel to it. The plunger tube has a funky plumb color to it, not sure if its blued, or what, not sure why its a different finish but oh well, I might hit it with some black spray paint. All the parts appear to be interchangable with the aftermarket manufactures parts, exept for the mainspring housing. I tried to install a flat chainlink MSH on the Regent and it was super tight, I don't know if its the gun, or the part, I have had parts from Fusion be off before. Please lmk if there is a MSH that is a drop in fit. Also the MSH pin appears to be oversized, again this was on the Fusion MSH, so it may or may not be. The extractor isn't close to being fluch with the back of the slide, no big deal, the frame to slide fit at the rear of the gun is mated very well, on the Springfield I had the frame rails extended past the slide, but on the Regent the frame and slide match up great.

There is one thing I am concerned with on the Regent, on the frame there looks to be what I hope is a casting mark on the frame behined the recoil guide rod, once I get batteries for my camera I will get some better pics up

The grip safety (on every Regent Umarex) hole is drilled up to high and close to the frame, which makes the safety hang down below the frame a little. This kinda bothers me a little, but eventually I will put a replacement GI grip safety in from Colt or Springfield, till then it works fine.

The Regent has a one peice cold hammer forged stainless steel barrel, this they got perfect, the barrel is great. It has some tool and casting marks, nothing major. I put a Nighthawk GI recoil spring plug on mine, I had it from a previous 1911. The sights are GI sights nothing exciting, but what I wanted, the gun does shoot a little low, I had to adjusted the way I line up the sights, but not much. The Regent 1911 is accurate, I was able to keyhole 5 shots at 15yrds, not bad at all.
My first trip to the range I was really nervious the Regent wouldn't function, as I said in the beginning this 1911 is tight, so I figured it would need a break in period. I loaded up the first magazine, crossed my fingers, and let her rip. Fist round went off no FTF or FTE and I breathed a small sigh of relief, after that I unloaded the magazine on the target at 10ft, all center mass, not one glitch. I bought the ammo at the range I belive it was PMC 230gr, but I am not 100% sure. Both the ammo and the 1911 have funtioned flawless through 100rds. If you are looking for a GI 1911 under $500 this is a great option, the IAC imported ones may be hard to find, I think Umarex it doing all the importing now.
