In an earlier post you recommended Aikido and Taiho-Jutsu for a younger chap with a delicate spine. Would this recommendation be the same for an older guy who wishes to tune up his empty hand capabilities?

I an 60, active, and in good health, but have lapsed in my regular workouts. I studied TKD for a about ten years in the past.

LApm9, the Aiki-type forms are designed to allow the smaller and weaker to flow into the attack of the bigger and stronger, redirect their force, and win. Thus, just as they serve the smaller and weaker, they serve the older and more brittle.

Of course, half of it is doing it as the practitoner defending, and half of it is doing it as the uke, or attacker. You can't understand what you're doing to the attacker fully, until it is done to you.

It is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to let the instruction staff know any infirmities you may have, so that you aren't the one who gets slammed to the floor when in the bad guy role.

Good luck, stay safe, and learn well!

best,
Mas
