View Full Version : Benelli M2 Tactical and light loads
My Benelli M2 Tactical has been flawless from day one with all loads I've tried in it, 3" slugs to 1 oz target loads.
I've heard others may not have the same experience and their M2's stumble with light loads.
Does anyone here have experience with M2 Benelli's (or other recoil operated semi-autos) having issue not wanting to cycle light target loads?
Thanks in advance
I personally have not yet, but I have not put much through my M2 besides buckshot; however I have seen others have issues. I've witnessed a few that had trouble with weak ejections on light loads, but most people have them modified if need be. Recoil springs, lightened bolt, etc.
Mine eats them all just fine, it is like any weapon takes a little while to break in to a steady operating norm.
I have had no failures or jams, Shooting my M2. I have always liked the Benelli SG's, ( I have the HK/Benelli M1, M2, Super Nova, & Nova, they all are built right and run smooth.
How many rounds do you have through it? I have a M1S90 Tac that would reliably stovepipe at least one in seven light loads until I put about 500 rounds of heavy double-ought through it.
Also, are you rocking one of those oversized bolt knobs?
All total I probably have 200-300 rounds through mine (although I must admit I don't count). This is combination of target loads, buckshot, and slugs. Most were 2 3/4" but there have been some 3".
I guess I'm lucky, not a bobble with any of them. I have kept the gun well lubed but haven't given it any other special attention.
My M1014 will not cycle the blue Federal birdshot you can get at walmart. Cycles everything else though. I don't know why, but it just doesn't like them.
I know mine is gas piston, sorry. Maybe those you have heard off are just with one load in particular.
You make a good point. I wonder if it could be the powder burn rate chosen for that particular Federal load?
I might be. With that particular load I have to manually cycle every other round. Sometimes it will go three, but usually just two. Which sucks, if it were more random, I could use it as failure to extract practice.
M1 Super90 Tactical runs field loads fine since day one. I run HV#6 in 3 Gun Matches with no issues, as well as RR slugs and buck.
M2 works good with anything 1 1/8 and 3 dram equivalent. Less than that was a bit spotty on functioning.
Feeds flawlessly but kicks like a mule with 3" Magnum slugs................................the other end of the spectrum. :embarassed:
Had an M1 Super 90 that would not reliably cycle light target loads. OTOH, prior to that I had a Benelli M121 that would cycle anything. I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of it. :brickwall:
