So i bought a Old S&W .38spl engraved with a year of 1967 along with an owners name at a garage sale for what i though to be a bargin. The catch is it is almost totally seized up. The Cylinder release is forward as if i had pushed it to open the cylinder and the spring wants to hold it there. as long as the release it forward nothing budges and inch. However if i hold it back in its normal location i can pull the trigger and it will move the hammer back maybe 1/4 of an inch but when released it springs back forward. No matter what i do the cylinder will not open. There is also a small pin under the barrel just back from the muzzle that apperes to be outta place. it is sticking out where it apperes it should be smooth. The lady swore it fired 5 years ago when her husband was around

Ideas?

Ill get some pics up, maybe you can give me some info about what it is too. I confess i dont know the first thing about the revolver iam more of a semiauto guy.

The pin sticking out in front is meant to lock the ejctor rod in place. There's a possibility the ejector rod has come unscrewed over time and has siezed up the gun, but I couldn't say for sure.

My advice? Get it to a competent gunsmith. Just from those few pics, it looks like a decent buy, assuming it won't be too much to get it running again.
