One of my partners went thru the academy with him at NEALEA. He's closely watching the outcome of this event as it unfolds. I'm very sorry that it doesn't look like there is a positive outcome for the officer involved.

Zoyter, Any news on why the chase started, etc...?

Word filtered down here because he is the stepson of one of our guys.

All I have been told is that he stopped to talk to a young man about 11 am, got out of his car and a foot chase started. He chased the guy through the neighborhood and at some point was shot in the head.

I have heard from local officers information saying that the officer has passed, but that is unconfirmed by anyone else or any news. Note, the local news says "still alive but on life support, and they report one suspect in custody". This as of minutes ago. I don't think anyone really knows what is up yet.

Seems they have a suspect in custody already. The original report I posted has changed their headline so that it does NOT say the officer has died. I do not have much hope that reports were wrong as they originally quoted the Anniston Police Dept rep. But maybe?

On the local news at 9pm, they said the Officer Sollohub was on life support with no brain activity. He is being kept this way to gain organs, as he was a donor.

The report at the link I posted earlier from the CBS 42 station, reflects this updated information.

Whats the story on the suspect?

Joshua Russell, 25, of Anniston was the man who shot Sollohub. Russell has been charged with capital murder.

That is about all I know for sure. Of course the rumors are rampant as to what actually happened and what this guy's history is, but I don't feel these are worth repeating.

http://www.annistonstar.com/view/full_story/15224139/article-Capital-murder-is-charge-against-Joshua-Russell?instance=1st_left

Yeah, this guy was a real winner. About halfway down.....

Somebody ought to pay for putting the vile POS back on the street. And pay big. FIVE felonies in the past, including a current warrant in Troy for assaulting an officer.

In addition to the capital murder charge, Russell is being held on four counts of unlawful distribution of controlled substances out of Oxford... a warrant for domestic violence charge.. a warrant for felony charge of assaulting an officer.

...Court records show Russell has pleaded guilty to five felony crimes over the past two years, including three drug distribution convictions.

Russell was serving a five-year sentence on one of those drug convictions when he was released in October 2010 four years early

Nice, so a 5 time felon, released after serving 20% of a sentence, was wanted on 5 more felonies and a misdemeanor the day he killed a police officer:steamed:

Police officer and organ donor. Quite a fine young man. I hope the justifiable pride his parents feel will give them a small degree of comfort in their loss.

Thousands of people attended the funeral of fallen Anniston Police Officer Justin Sollohub, including local officials. But one official, who has been outspoken questioning police procedures and investigations, was refused entry to the funeral.

I am sorta torn about this, on one hand, I loath Ben Little. He is nothing more than a trouble causing little piss ant who has found his niche in a section of town that values trouble causing little piss ants.

BUT he was there to show respect for (like it or not) one of his towns Officers.

How do y'all cops feel about the situation?

I feel that a Brother was being laid to rest and his Brothers and Sisters were there to honor him and his family.

Screw the political $*** stirrer. That was not a place for him to be.

Reading the comments on the bottom of the article, it seems like most people commenting neither like nor respect Ben Little.

As for the friends and family not wanting him there, if Little was indeed trying to show respect, then he did the best thing by leaving.

Agreed. I have had my opinion further solidified by this asshat's most recent call for attention ....
