considering a case feeder for my 550 but dont want the electric colator. Is it possible to just buy the case feeder and tube portion itself, then just hook up a funnel like lee uses. Only load a couple hundred in one sitting and that electric case feeder would drive me nuts.

Casefeeders on 550 are hit and miss.

Just do it the old fashioned way.

If you really want a casefeeder, spring for a 650.

NO.

The collator works well, the slider is hit or miss. Pass on it.

Without a collator what is the point?

I think a lot of people are satisfied with the concept and value of the Lee collator (at least for pistol cases). I've seen a Lee collator attached to a 650 and it seemed like it would work pretty well... I think the OP is trying for something similar with a 550.

OR a DIY collator is pretty straight forward; less so for a case inserter (though I'm sure you of all people have already done it).

Yes but you need a slider to push the case into the shellplate. 550 doesn't have one. Ona 650 it comes with the slider standard. With out a slider a casefeeder is useless.

Exactly. I may have misunderstood but I think the OP was looking to find an inserter/slider for the 550 but not a collator.

Dillon makes one. It's not that great. Comes with the Collator. The call it the 550 casefeeder setup.

If it was me and I was really handy I would make a version using a pneumatic pusher of some sort. Lee has some parts you could buy for the slider, then a mount for the cylinder.

Statik understands what Im asking about. just need the pusher, not the colator.

I understand that as well. The pusher comes with the collator, unless you can convince Dillon to just sell the pusher. For their "pusher" (which I would call the slider) to work you need their new subplate and a couple other things. Honestly, I would bet the cost of the individual parts (if they even would sell them) would cost more then just buying the entire setup and selling the collator on ebay.

I hear ya, Ive just about given up on this venture, Ill just stick to the tried and true method.

So you could take a Lee Collator and mount it right next to the existing chute for the 550. Then rig it so that it's easy to just take the case our of the collator (you would need to fashion a bracket to hold one case ready to go) and load it by hand into machine. Just an idea. I pretty much have it worked out in my mind. Not sure if I know how to explain it. The Lee 4 tube setup holds about 100 cases.

This is a pretty simple case feeder I built for an SD.

If it can't be made with unistrut and duct tape, it aint "pretty simple"

Unistrut would work but ducttape is for water leaks...

Mr Morris, I've seen your handiwork on various forums and I think your opinion of "simple" differs from most. And I honestly mean this as a compliment. If I had your skills (and workshop) I would spend half of my time just thinking stuff up and filing for patents.

Thank you for the complement, all it takes to do anything is one of everything and time. I guess I ment "simple" realitive to other things I have built. It's just 1x1 box tube, 3/4" plastic, a car door lock and a limit switch. It took two and a half hours to throw it together and is far from something you would put on the market. It came from a conversation on BE about "how could you do it.", I only used it once in the video above to display how it worked.

Now, the rocking chair/doll cradle (my wife thought looked easy) I built for my niece, that took 42 hours to make, I would say is not so simple.
