howd ya kill it? shovel?
I'm betting he cut in half with his steely gaze...
Garter Snake.
I can't think of a more harmless snake. (I really can't)
Next time, go on a slug hunting rampage. Those suckers are far more dangerous than garter snakes.

I have cats and dogs for the mice and other critters.
It was a shovel.
Typically when I see a snake, its dead. Ill worry about ID'ing it after its dead.
Works out better for me.

Garter snakes are great pets. I had one as a pet. Now that you made your own Gasden flag... Declare your independence!

^ +1 ....
Garter Snake.....
Don't kill these guys... they are good to have around, eat bugs and small rodents. Totally harmless, though they will give you a nip if you pick them up.

Spiders are quite beneficial too, doesn't mean that I want them in my garage or home either, they get treated the same...

Snakes have the capacity to communicate via brainwaves to other snakes when they feel frightened... Tonight as you sleep.. Hundreds of his buddies will be slithering towards you.. Lying in wait.. When they hear the snores.. They will pounce.. Sleep well my friend.. LOL
