Why anyone would use a pistol as a HD defense weapon is beyond me. An AR or a shotgun I can understand, but why limit yourself to a pistol cartridge from the get go?

Thanks for the invite, bro, but you pretty much nailed in your comment in that thread the reasons why I think a handgun is best if you're only going to have one firearm for home defense. Obviously, availability of both handgun and long gun gives you more options.
