View Full Version : Good quality survival radios?
Looking for a radio that does AM/FM/shortwave/weather and is AA and hand crank powered. No oddball built-in rechargeable batteries (when they go bad the radio is useless). Quality and compactness is more important than price.
Quality is a really difficult thing to judge from browing web sites so that's why it's good to ask and get real feedback.
I just bought one from REI. ETON makes the Red Cross unit, REi's units and several other branded ones. They've been around for a while and I think there're decent. Radioshack also sells the RC brand one, but from the looks of it, it's all ETON
I have a Grundig with a hand crank. I love it. It goes with me everywhere...part of my GHB.
I also carry a portable Motorola UHF band in my GHB and BOB. Emergency services personell in my state use these 400 MHz frequencies.
