What is the most accurate loads at 15yds? Using 230gr FMJs 4.5grs seem to group about 2" high. Would 4gr. raise or lower my POI? Can I go lower since its a 3" barrel? The only thing I know for sure is these loads group a hell of a lot better than my 40sw loads using the same powders.

All guns are diff, there is no formula for guns shooting diff POA/POI. You can only give it a try. I have yet to find a more accurate powder than WST. I admit to NOT having tried 700X, but if it meters anything like 800X, no thanks. My best 1911 will put them under 1" @ 50ft w/ just about any bullet o/ WST. Hell, even my little OM & XDTAC will do that too.

+1 on the WST Fred. 4.5gr did group very well(but high). 4gr was a soft shooting round but I havent loaded enough of them yet to see how it groups. As for 700x, you should at least try it. It looks more like 231 to me than 800x. I might install a lower rear sight to get zeroed in at 45ft if I have to. Thanks:cool:

Did you chrono that 4gr load? Esp in a short barrel, I wouldn't be surprised if 4gr was as slow as about 650fps.

No chrono readings. I've been shooting indoors lately. I loaded another 10rds today at 4grs. They were accurate at 25ft but they probably do need to be bumped up maybe to 4.3 as it seemed they were barely cycling my g30.

Yep, 4gr under a 230grFMJ, if it was making 700fps * would be surprised. With 4.6gr, I am only getting 760fps in a 5" bbl.:wow:

http://stevespages.com has WST 3.8gr-4.9gr(225gr/230gr bullet). I decided to start at 4.5 then jumped down to 4gr. 4gr might be better suited for a 225gr bullet or lead:dunno:. I'll stick with the 4.5gr load and learn to deal with my accuracy.

Yep, 4.3gr under a 230gr LRN runs just under 800fps.
