The Departed.

Great acting, good plot.....

I'm sure there has been a thread about it here..

I thought the ending was the best part, personally.

I know I'm in the monirity, but I never cared for it.

Seems like the writer couldn't think of any dilogue, so he just had the characters cruse eachother for two hours. I'm also just tired of movies about dirty cops.

Since I saw the original I wasn't expecting Hollywood to make it any better.

This. The original sucked, the hollywood version sucked more. The only redeeming part was seeing Matt Dayyyyy-Mun! get his head blown off. That scene should be added to every movie he is in.

Probably one of my favorie "dirty cop" movies. Going with the dirty cop theme, Brooklyn's Finest has to be one of the most depressing and feel bad movies I've ever seen.

I liked Brooklyn's Finest. I also loved Internal Affair with Richard Gere. I thought the movie ended stupidly though. Unlawful Entry was good too. The stainless Beretta looked awesome in that movie.

Deep Cover is one of the all time best dirty cop movies. Did anyone like that one with Ed Norton and Colin Farrell? Forgot the name but it was about the 4 NYPD cops that got shot. I didn't care for it.

I'm wondering if the movie got its plot from the case in Boston where the mobster was on the FBI payroll. I think the guy was just caught a few weeks ago. James "Whitey" Bulger

I kinda liked The Corruptor. I think the producers intended to make a B grade shoot'em up but by accident made a decent flick.

Yeah - the last scene in The Departed where Damon gets offed was worth the price of admission.

msu_grad_121

Street Kings was a bubble gum action movie with somewhat of a plot (my friend is always saying how you could never get away with killing that many cops and not have some major issues, to which I reply that it's just a movie). The Departed had (in my opinion) a better plot, but some really solid action sequences, too. Sort of a brains-vs.-brawns matchup, but I can enjoy them both.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Training Day yet... highly underrated movie IMO, and one of my favorites to this day. Dirty cop plot yes, but ends well and leaves a light at the end of the tunnel. The Departed is a good flick but seems like the ending was a cop out (no pun intended) and they could have done better with that lineup of actors and moviemakers.

Street Kings was not about corrupt cops! Well, at least the main character wasn't.

Of course the main character wasn't corrupt. That's what most cop movies are about; One good, rogue cop fighting the corrupt system against all the bad cops. The same old regurgitated crap from Hollywood. :faint:

Exceptions: Training Day and Brooklyn's Finest . . . all the cops were bad.

lawman800

Negative on Brooklyn's Finest.

I wouldn't call Richard Gere's character corrupt at all. He fooks a prostitute and falls in love near the end of his lonely career. He refused to lie to cover for a rookie's mistake. (stayed honest but did not stay behind the blue wall)

Don Cheadle's character wasn't corrupt either. He was trying to do his job but found out the people he worked for were worse than the dealers he worked with. His last act was not so much corruption as it is going native with a warped sense of honor after they attempted to kill him and the Wesley Snipes character.

Ethan Hawkes' character is the only one that is truly corrupt, murdering and stealing money, but it's to save his wife's life. Doesn't make it right, but at least it's a reason, as compared to a cop that just murders and steals for his own enjoyment.

I don't even think of Training Day as a cop movie, really. It's more like a gangster movie which had some characters which are cops. Same with LA Confidential. The corrupt cops there are not the central focus.

I didn't say corrupt cops, I said BAD cops.
As to RG's character; he was an evident burnout no longer interested in enforcing the law until his reawakening after retirement.
DC's character commits a murder shooting the unarmed dirtbag how many times? As LEO we are not permited to execute people no matter how much they might deserve it.
he worked for were worse than the dealers he worked with. The basic premise that Hollwood loves to expound.
Weren't all the cops in LA Confidential bad in some way? Maybe I missed something.

I actually liked that scene. However, the shooter had shoe protectors on but nothing on his head to prevent hairs contaminating the area..

It's the only movie I know of where Matt Damon dies.

I don't believe it right now, knowing what I know with modern sensibilities. But conversely, I also don't live in that time so I don't think I would think the same way if I grew up back then. I certainly know people didn't think it was wrong for a lot of the things to be the way it was.:whistling:

Okay. No hindsight here, I grewup in that time. I was 10 years old by 1956 and I KNEW things like lying, cheating, stealing, beating up people or murdering them whether done by private citizens or the police was wrong. :dunno:

I've always wondered, at the very end, did Mark Wahlberg kill Matt Damon for revenge over what Damon did to Leo and Martin Sheen, or did he kill him because he was in on it and was getting revenge for Nicholson?

Another good movie where Scott Speedman got whacked. What is it with these semi-wimpy leading men?

That movie is also pushing it too much on the racial top which is getting tiring. The black female sergeant played has two big black sergeants escort her when Scott tries to talk to her? I get it that it's the LA riots and there is alleged racism in the department... Fine. Is that really the focus of the movie or is it bad cops?

Maybe it's just where I am, but all us here mix in groups and we don't congregate in racially divided groups like that.

I think it's very clear that he was "protecting" his undercover. That's a huge theme during the movie: he worked undercover and along with Queenan, ran the undercovers and kept their identities safe. He stormed out when he was ordered to (and refused) to provide access to the undercover files.

Good point, but maybe it was left intentionally unclear to keep us guessing. Marky Mark could have easily said this is for killing the Joker or this is for the King of the World (Titanic). He could have even said, this is for being Matt Dayyyyyy-Munh!!!
