Hi Mas

I am going to buy a Ruger SP 101 and I am trying to decide between the 2.5 inch barrel or the 3 1/16 inch. Does it make that much of ballistic difference out of the longer tube? What is a good reliably expanding mid-range load in .357 magnum? When I am carrying this as a primary it will be backed up by my Smith 642 in which case both will be loaded with the Speer 135 gr .38 +P load. This will be a carried mainly IWB. Thanks in advance.

Been a while since I've chronographed them. The 3-inch will obviously give more power than the 2". For inside the waistband carry I'd take my 3", for pocket or ankle, the shorter gun. Concealability factors would decide more for me than difference in velocity.

I did one case in California where medium velocity Golden Saber .357 Mag by Remington did a simply awesome job. However, I just don't see that many shootings with the medium velocity .357 loads. I'm told the Speer Gold Dot 135 grain short barrel load in this caliber performs well, but haven't run across any shootings with it yet. 135 grain +P Gold Dot is an awesome .38 Special load, though, and well proven.
