What's the general opinion of Desert Eagle's 1911? I have a chance to buy one, and don't know much about it. The few reviews I have read online say good things. Anyone here have an opinion, either positive or negative?

Extremely nice 1911. Great buy for the money. Has the sweetest trigger pull I have ever felt from any 1911 right out of the box.

I checked one out at the LGS back when I was in the market for a 1911. It was solid feeling 1911 and it looked good. Like you all the reviews said nothing but glowing things. Then I looked up there customer service even thought I hope to never use it I still like to know its there. There customer service is nothing but horror story after horror story. I read a lot of they have had my pistol over 2months with no return ETA. Also they keep pistol 3-4months sent back no problem found. I decided to past on the Desert Eagle 1911 and go with the RIA instead. One other thing to note is on there website the warranty is very strict. They do not cover the finish if the gun is gotten any way other then a store front. Also you have to fill out a registration card are the warranty is void. Things like this on top of the poor customer service I read about. Scared me off I still think they feel like extremely solid handguns and I might get one in the future. I just want to be more comfortable with the 1911 platform first.

Here is a link to there warrenty you have to google search it to find it.

I love mine.

Its one of the best sub $700 1911s on the market.

Kahr Arms now owns Magnum Research, that should hopefully help with customer service issues as they transition and synch up. I have a Commander version on order and hope the good things said hold up for it as well. I have a close contact at Kahr and I'm sure they will get things straightened out at Magnum Research.

Its too bad they have that billboard size name on the slide. It kills the looks.

I agree, they could have done it better, should have made it smaller.

I have 2 and love them both.

Here's one wearing American Holly grips.

Everybody always says that about almost every 1911, but if they all looked exactly the same, what fun would it be to collect them all?

I had one but sold it to pursue other avenues.

It was a sweet gun.

Really, if it's going to say DESERT EAGLE that big on the slide, why not go for broke and make it take up the whole gun?

If you look at the bottom picture I posted above you will see where I put some 3M tape on the front strap. Not as "pretty" as checkering, but it fills the bill for right now.

It also helped with the grip, as I find smooth grips a bit harder to get a firm hold on.

No offense, but grip tape, just doesn't cut it for me.

None taken. As I stated above, it fills the bill for right now. I will probably sell/trade the Holly grips, as I have a set of VZ's on my other DE1911C and don't need the grip tape for it. Just can't get used to the smooth/slick feel of non-checkered grips.

Take care.

The nice thing is that the rollmarks do not affect the function. This is a sweet shooting 1911.

What I'm trying to understand is why they called it "Desert Eagle 1911."

I thought Desert Eagle was Magnum Research's model name for their other gun, you know, the Magnum Research Desert Eagle? And they just put 1911 at the end of it... just seems weird, merging model names like that.

It would be like if Toyota made a run of Corollas, and called them Tacoma Corollas.

Or if Heckler and Koch came out with a 1911 and called it the USP 1911.

:dunno:

World wide name recognition, largely thanks to Hollywood and all those 1990's era "shoot 'em up" B movies.

Many folks wouldn't recognize the brand under the Magnum Research title, but virtually everyone knows the name Desert Eagle.

.50GI or .50AE?

There's a 1911, I think made by GunCrafter, that you can get in a special .50GI caliber.

A 1911 in .50AE would be a thing to behold. It also would need to be built from the ground up, as I don't think there's anyway to modify a standard 1911 to take a round as big as the .50AE.

Yeah, it wouldn't be a 1911.

Grizzly made 1911-style pistols in 50AE. I looked like a 1911, but was much bigger and heavier.

I was thinking more along the line of bull****. I was pissed off to say the least. I drove over an hour and he pulled this crap. I even called right before I left to make sure he was home, he could have saved me about $30 in gas and a wasted evening.

If you want one, and want to have a lifetime warranty, order one through Gun Genie (Davidson's.) They provide a lifetime warranty on what they sell.

I owned one for a while, but sold it before I ever fired it...I decided I wanted to concentrate on American made 1911s (just my personal preference...not saying everyone should feel the same way.) It is well equipped for the money...the only thing I didn't like were the sights (black, not even white dot.)

My two favorite 1911s are my Ruger SR1911 and my S&W SW1911. I think their triggers are as good or better than any 1911s I have ever had (I've never owned a custom 1911.)

I own a DE1911 g and absolutely love it. I have about 1000 rounds through it now with not so much as 1 ftf or fte. It is extremely accurate straight out of the box. The fit and machining of the parts are excellent. The trigger is fantastic at 4 lbs. It really is so much fun to shoot. For the price you just can't beat it. It compares in options and quality to much more expensive guns. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a 1911 and doesn't want to spend thousands on one. I have shot multiple 1911's in its price range and I felt the DE was at the top in all aspects.

I thought that it was pretty much equal in every aspect except one, I couldn't find a ruger available anywhere. I have been on two different waiting lists for more than 6 months and there still aren't any to be found. originally I was looking for the ruger but I was impatient. I couldn't wait for 6 to 9 months for my 1911.
