View Full Version : Carry in DC Passport Office?
I have an appointment to go to the Washington DC Passport Office later today, and they have a big note about metal detectors/security/don't carry weapons. Are they going to give me grief, despite having a badge/creds? I don't really want to leave my gun at home, after all, it is DC.

They'll probably have a weapons check area for LEOs if the don't allow anyone except DSS to carry in the building.
We used to have a lock box for LEO's (outside of bailiffs and certain cops escorting) up at the Supreme Court. No outside guns were allowed in Supreme Court. It was weird seeing uniformed officers with no gun??? But hey... Supreme Court Justices get what they want I guess?
I would not be surprised if certain DC offices run the same way. With creds, you should be treated good either way.
One of our guys is in DC now, unrelated to 9/11, but coincidental to it. He said that security is up and that he hasn't been anywhere that he could take a gun. That runs contrary to what has been posted here, but I suspect it's a 9/11 related thing. No idea about the passport office.
UPDATE: I walked in, showed creds to the guys at the metal detector. One of them said, "carry on." Walked through said detector, heard it beep a lot, and went to apply for a passport. Nobody cared. So at least at that place, you're good to go.
