In flight school there's a poster they have in the tactics classroom that explains target fixation with very little misunderstanding possible.

Medium distance picture of an absolutely empty field, couple/few dozen acres. ONE tree bloody near in the center of the field with a Cessna crumpled nosed into the top of the tree.

Don't stare at something you would much prefer avoiding.
