Based on your positive assessment of this round, I now carry it in my snubbie revolvers.

Would you make the same recommendation for self-defense use in a longer-barreled revolver such as a 4" GP100? If not, what would you recommend?

Also, what would you recommend as a good .357 Magnum self-defense round for a 4" GP100?

I for one feel perfectly comfortable carrying 135 grain +P Gold Dot in a 4" .38 Special revolver. Several years ago, NYPD went to that load not only for off duty and backup .38s, but for the significant number of their officers who are "grandfathered" to carry .38 Specials as their primary duty weapons if they came on before the early 1990s switch to the 9mm auto. New York cops tell me it has worked out well "on the street," and they have no complaints.
