Anyone who can lip read can tell you that the first set of punches resulted when the idiot told the officers point blank he was going to "kick their ash."

As you may know, LEOs don't have to take a punch before returning a punch.

As for the second set of punches, it was quite obvious the idiot was resisting being cuffed.

And I think many people now-a-days equate charges being dropped because the victim didn't want to be bothered (or some other reason) to being innocent.

Shoulda cuffed him at the bar when he got mouthy and up in their grill at about 5 seconds into the video instead of trying to just escort him out. That little bit of kindness on the officers' part just encouraged him to get mouthy and stupid again at about 15 seconds into the video and led to the punch. Around here he would have been a good arrest for Alcohol Intoxication from the get go and dropping the hammer on him early would have avoided the whole situation.

That being said, the first punch is ugly. It can probably be justified, but it's going to be uphill especially dealing with a Detroit jury. I personally have no problems at all with him getting tagged in the ribs when he bucked up on the officers while being cuffed at about 30 seconds into the video.

Heavens. How could this have been prevented?
Perhaps being drunk, groping a waitress wasn't such a good idea.
Perhaps simply agreeing with the Officers and leaving the venue would have been a good idea.
Perhaps suddenly deciding you should argue with the Officers wasn't such a good idea.
Spinning around when all that bubbling testoserone is running through your system was a bad idea.
Sticking your finger in the cops face to make your point, also not such a hot idea.
Yelling at the cop about how you:
A. Are going to kick his ass
B. Don't have to put up with his crap because you pay his salary
C. Know alot of important people
While getting in his face in a manner that indicates you are up for a fight.

Yeah, looks like if he had played along at the onset of the festivities, nothing would have happened.

...or was it, "You've got the prettiest blue eyes I've ever seen"....:aodnsb:

Seriously, that really was a nice shot........

many a drunk met the same fate in saloons all across America back in the 1800s.....except maybe they were pistol-whipped.....which is cool, too.

They're at point blank range, in a crowd, and dude has one of his hands up by his head like he's pointing at the cop and running his mouth. The amount of force used was such that the drunk was put down without a long, unnecessary struggle all over the area and without other people getting wrapped up in it and possibly injured. Once he's down he's putting up enough of a fight that the security guy (or whoever) was restraining his legs.

It's not pretty, but i can live with it.

My son plays ball with that cops kid, he's a good guy. I'd post my opinion but I'm sure you know what is it. ;) :whistling:

Sorry but I didn't see anything news worthy. I did notice the guy was using his legs to kick the cop while being cuffed. That earned him a couple of extra shots. Then the casino employee stepped in and grabbed his legs.I would change the thread title to Detroit's finest dealing with Detroit's dumbest.

I see no problem with the action taken by the police there. There was a time when you mouthed off to the cops, you got punched in the teeth. I think we should loosen the reigns a bit on the police and let them hand out a few beatings to loud mouth drunks and curbside lawyers.

:agree:....Sometimes swift and decisive action is required to control a situation and bring it to an end...

Looks fine to me. You get in my face in a manner where I am placed in fear for my safety I will use force which is consistent with SOP and state law.

Maybe the cop should have just pulled out his pea shooter and shot him first just to make sure the guy got the point?

Well, that would be a little much. Maybe just a baton strike to the nads or a taze to the face. No need to go hands on, after all.

I'm not a cop, but it looks to me like a case of, "Be careful what you ask for--you might just get it", or, maybe, "Stupid games have stupid prizes".

I'd ride with that cop any day. Being escorted out of a building, and then spinning around telling me he's gonna kick my backside? I'd say he's lucky he went down with the one punch, and his tiny little brain didn't absorb a bit more punishment before throwing in the towel.

The only thing that'll jam him/them up is their articulation in the report writing.

That was a nice punch. That loud mouth d-bag was obviously escalating. I imagine I would have reacted similarly if someone, whom I was in the process of escorting from a location, quickly turned on me, made a threatening comment and raised his hand.

Justifiable use of force all day long. Like others have said articulation is key.
