I do not see an option on Rem's website where I can get an 870 12g w/ a 20" smooth bore barrel. Do those exist as factory orders? Any help in getting a factory item # or directing me to one is greatly appreciated...

Only one comes with a smooth bore 20" barrel these days and it is model number 24888 and is an 870 Police with a 20" smooth bore rifle sight barrel.

There was several models with the smooth bore 20" deer barrel but I do not see them now. However, you can get any 870 and simply sell the barrel off of it and get the barrel you want. There are 20" Deer barrels with rifle sights and Rem Choke, 20" parkerzied Rifle sight barrels and 20" bead sight barrels. I have all in stock as they are not good sellers and hang around for some time, therefor you should have no problem finding one.

thank you! I think the 24888 is what I was looking for. How do they compare pricewise vs. the 870Express?
Is it true that the internals of the Police versions are beefier and considered an upgrade vs. the Express line?

It is not true. There is only one 870 and they differ by finish and furniture and there are two small parts difference in those two models. It is not even a dollar amount as for an example the 18.5" Express barrel that comes on the Express HD cost $134 but the 18.5" bead sight Parkerized barrel that comes standard on the 870 Police cost $101. Most all Express barrels cost more then the Police barrels.

There are no beefier parts. Go to www.remington.com (http://www.remington.com) and down load the parts list and you will see they only offer one parts for most all the internals of the 12ga 870. So that shuts up the clowns that claim the Police is built with different parts as they are clueless.

I have an 870 Express with a smooth bore 20" rifle sight barrel. I didn't know they were hard to come by.

does it have the vented rib? what capacity is it?
The 24888 has no vented rib on the barrel and comes with an 8+1 capacity which is what I'm looking for (don't like having to deal with the dimples to add aftermarket tube extensions)...

For awhile I ran a 20" rifle-sighted, rem-choke barrel on my 870 for some added versatility. I believe the barrel was $167, and was actually a wingmaster barrel (high polish blue). I kept an IC choke in it for home duty.

I purchased a used 870 and added one of JD's 20" bead sighted smooth bore barrels for a great HD piece. If you can't find the 870 you want, as JD said you should be able to piece together exactly what you want.

Rem. does make a 21" deer 870, but that's a bit longer than what you're looking for.

No vent rib, standard 4+1 capacity. I bought the gun with a 28" vent rib barrel, and ordered the 20" barrel for slug hunting from Midwayusa.

Back in 2002, I bought my 870 Express deergun and it came standard with a 20'' smoothbore rifle sighted barrel. No vent rib.
Standard 4+1 capacity. I added an extension giving 6+1.

Mine started as a Turkey Gun of the express flavor. I added after market sites that support both shot and slug firing, high and low light, a tube extension and Surefire light forearm.
