View Full Version : I want to buy Day/Night sights!

I want to buy sights that will be used for both.
I have someone that can install them perfect for me and sight it etc. I just want to know what are some of the better sights, without breaking the bank.. I have found a few right around $50 which is more in my range. I really love the look of fiber optic sights, but will that also work in complete dark? Do they glow?

A few recommendations would be great thanks!

P.S. added a few links to get an idea..

for a Glock 23 btw.

Check out TruGlo TFO's. They have tritium and fiber optics in them so they glow brightly night and day.

Yeah their website says $150... that is about twice what I was hoping to spend.. I still need a range bag, a 2-3 magizine holster, and some AMMO!!!

The sights in the first link you provide are NOT night sights. They will glow brightly during daylight, but not at night. For night sights, you need some with tritium in them. Tritium is a form of hydrogen that emits light (H3). Tritium, or "night sights", have small vials of tritium in them, which glow all the time. They don't have to be charged with a flashlight like traditional glow in the dark stuff, they just glow. However, you can't see their glow during daytime.

Fiber optic sights, on the other hand, glow brightly during the day. They have fiber optic filaments that capture ambient light, and focus it toward the shooter. That makes the ends of the filaments (the dots) glow brightly. As far as I know, the only sights that combine tritium and fiber optics are the above mentioned TruGlo TFOs.

I really like my Heinie Straight Eight night sights, but they are more than you want to spend. They are about $120. I think the cheapest tritium sights would either be Ameriglo or Glock night sights. You should be able to find a set for about $70-80. They will not be bright in daylight, however. They will just be black, with whitish dots. If you want bright in all conditions, you need TFOs. The last option is a sight like the Ameriglo Hacks. You can get a black rear sight with tritium inserts, and an orange front sight with tritium. During the day, it makes the front sight bright, then they both glow at night. Good luck on your search.

The pure fiber optic versions dont glow on their own, they amplify the ambient light...Im on a search for some myself...you are pretty much guaranteed to spend at least $90 on a set with the tritium in them that glow on their own...im looking at getting some xs big dot sights from Lonewolf.

Look at Metpro night sights. The are white dots during the day and contain tridium so they glow in the dark. They are in the $90 range. I have them on all my glocks.

I just picked up a G22 with the TFO's and I am really impressed! I have the regular tritium on a number of pistols and the TFO's are going to be my standard from now on! For around a hundred bucks at Midway and others that is a good deal.

I have some Truglo TFOs on one of my sigs, and like them:

but a couple of weeks ago for my G22 I decided on the Ameriglo PRO-IDOT Orange:
Daylight gives a very easy to see orange dot, if you're in the dark and against a bright target they're great regular sights, and at night the front sight is larger, and you put the big one above the little one. I shopped around and I got them for $65 for both, which I thought was quite fair. I got them from I place I had never used called manventure outpost:
They didn't have a picture of them but it was the right model number. Shipping was very fast, like 3 days, for Florida to Houston. They were suggested somewhere (possibly this forum) and I'm happy with my pick. The truglos wouldn't be bad either, but I wanted something to differentiate the front from the back, and wanted "dot-the-i" type of alignment.
Good luck, and have fun making it yours!

Might want to check out the Ameriglo's. I recently installed them on my G23 and love them. I went with the Pro-Glo front sight with the green outline ( looks more like chartruse,) and the Pro-Operators on the rear with no outline. The front sight is highly visible and easy to focus on in the daylight.

The front sight is green tritium and the rear is yellow tritium, so at night it is very easy to differentiate (wow big word) the front sights from the rear. Use the code GSSF for 10% off your order.

I took a chance putting this combination together when I ordered, but am completely satisfied with them. Good luck with your purchase.

Take a strong look at the new models of Trijicon HD (Heavy Duty) sights. HD's just came out a few months ago. I put them on a G27 a little over a week ago. Easy and quick to pick up and align. Green tritium vilas with either an orange or yellow LARGE dot on the front. http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product1.php?id=HDNS
