I saw my first SR1911 last week at Gander Mtn. for $749. which I thought was a tad high. I called my local gun store guy and asked him to get me one. He said I hope to have one on Monday and I said I'll take it. It was $646.00. I wanted to buy a NIB 1911 this year due to it's 100 birthday. It was test fired Sept 22. Serial #1789.

I took it to the range today along with a SS Kimber Eclipse and a SS Colt that was smithed by Novak. I am more than pleased to report the Ruger performed flawlessly. Not a single failure of any kind. From the first 10 rounds shooting free hand at seven yds. eight shots went nearly through the same hole. I pulled the first one low and one a little high at some point.
Considering what I have in the Colt it certainly doesn't shoot or feel $2000. better. I have a trigger on order for the Ruger but that is the only modification that I will make. The factory trigger is a little loose and I prefer a short trigger. I couldn't be happier with the value verses cost for this gun!

I read over on the Ruger forum that Ruger releases guns in blocks.
The blocks aren't in order. Makes me wonder if 1911 is rolling off of the line about now...That would be cool to have.

That makes me think they really are controlling the supply to build up demand for them.

The most amazing part is that the OP saw one last week, and was able to find one locally this week.

I'm a 1911 newbie. I am very aware that I have no idea the fine details of a 1911.

A few months back I had a hankering for a .45ACP. I rented a SA 1911. Didn't like it at all. I ended up purchasing a G21SF. Last month, I decided to give the 1911 another go. I rented the SR1911. Wow. That one felt "right" to me.

I've been on the waiting list at my LGS for 7 days now. I'm expecting the wait to be a few months.

More amazing than that is, one of my buddies went to the same Gander Mtn. a day after I bought the Ruger elsewhere and the Ruger was still there. That was several days ago now, but I'm surprised that it's sitting there based upon everything I've read about folks not being able to find them. I don't believe there is another one locally as I drop into the LGS's often.

Now to drift my own thread...it seems like a lot of manufacturers are letting us sell their guns through hype. I haven't seen very many of the single stack 9mm's available, like the Ruger or the Kimber solo. Browning has two versions of the 1911 out in .22. I've asked around locally and noone has even seen them, nor can they order them until they are offered one. I'm wondering how long before the Beretta Nano will appear. I've heard November but I'm not holding my breath. I'm really curious about the Browning .22

I will be glad when I finally get the one I have had on order since early May. I have to keep buying other 1911s in the meanwhile to satisfy my anxiety.

That's ok...I wish I were taller so that I could conceal a Govt. 1911
I have a beautiful stingray holster that digs into my ribs and makes me 'uneven'. :whistling: (assuming from BACS post you figured out that I'm a woman)

Hi James nice to meet you too. A few years ago GT helped me pick my first 1911. It's funny how we come into ourselves, our likes and dislikes. I don't have that gun any longer as it always looked dirty...Since then I have a 'thing' for stainless guns. I currently carry an Inox Beretta 92compactL Type M. Once in a while I'll carry a Colt Defender. The Glocks unfortunately mostly live in the safe. I sold a spare Gen 3 G19 last week to a friend who is just getting into guns. And so it goes....

I actually saw for the first time one of the Browning Commemoratives. It was the boxed set with the knife which will pop right up if you google it. $1300 out the door. I think I'll wait for the 'service' model as I like to shoot my guns. This was at a gun show in MN this am.

The 3/4 size .22 with the Kabar knife? My local shop has one for just over a grand.

That is a lot of money for a .22 cal. 1911 and a knife. The Commerative KABAR knives are usually around $100 or so. I could not see myself paying over a $1000 for a 1911-22.

BTW, the INOX Berettas are absolutely beautiful pistols. I still need to find an older one for my Beretta collection.

Mine has a late August test fire date, and the serial number is in the triple digits. Certainly seems that they are not shipped in order.

Noone around here has seen the Browning's. I don't want to own a .22 that I don't want to shoot. In my mind .22's are for practice and curing bad habits.
That said I've recently shot a SW 41 that has been in my safe and damn...is that thing ever picky...IT finally ate 200 CCI mini mags w/o a misfire yesterday. It's been in the safe for 17 years...guess the girl is a little stiff.

I bought it NIB for $586. from a buddy a couple of months ago. That's what he paid for it.

Inox Beretta's are sexy, especially Type M. I have one TypeM that was smithed by Ernest Langdon. It's a honey.

Wouldnt it be cool if Ruger released other caliber versions of their 1911, say in 22LR?
Or perhaps offered a 22lr Upper..........oops reality back, probably be like the GLOCK 9mm carbine....
I cant complain they just re-released the sp101 in 22LR.

Seriously Ruger makes great firearms, Ive never been disappointed with any of their firearms, they are built to last.

Ive been searching for a Ruger SR1911 now for the last few months, every web site & gun shop all over the country, & no one has one & they tell me that they are on BO till 2012 some time, I called up Ruger in Prescott AZ. where they Mfg them & the guy told me the same thing none available till early 2012 I asked the gun shops to order one for me at a reasonable price of course & they all say the same thing we have them on order from Ruger for a while but they have not shipped any out for some time.?

That was at my local shop, but he hasn't been able to get them either. When he does, I believe prices will be higher.
