New computer (HP P6000) has Win 7 and I hate it. Many of my favorite programs won't run and even my printer won't work (no Win 7 driver available, so I have to buy new programs and maybe a new printer.

The immediate question is,
Do you know of a way to replace the Win 7 Explorer with an old style XP like Explorer.
All I want is a simple explorer with Folders and files.
The "Favorites, Desktop, Libraries, Homegroup", and other useless **** that MS stuck in the Win 7 Explorer just gets in the way and they won't let you delete it.

I realize that that they have to keep screwing with Windows so you have to buy the new system, but they went overboard with this POS.

I'm very close to formatting the whole mess and buying a Win XP disk to replace it.:steamed:

If you are comfortable editing the registry you can remove the Favorites, Libraries, Homegroup and User folders ...

Making Win7 look more traditional takes a few steps. Here is what mine looks like:

Let's see if I can remember what all I have done...

1. Choose "Windows Classic" theme.
2. Click the stupid Folder Band, choose Organize - Layout and hide the Navigation Pane, the Preview Pane and the Details Pane.
3. Now say goodbye to the stupid Folder Band by replacing the C:\Windows\System32\shellstyle.dll with a modified one (http://home.citizenofdreams.com/gt/shellstyle.dll).
4. Install Classic Shell (http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/) which gives you back classic - as in Windows 2000 classic - Start Menu and a few Explorer improvements.
5. Install DisableTaskbarOnTop (allows windows to be on top of the taskbar - see my screenshot - which was an option in Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows XP, but was removed for no apparent reason in Windows 7).
6. Create a new toolbar and call it "Quick Launch".
